XPS 15 9530 -how to replace SSD with new one?

I have the midrange XPS 15 9530 laptop, almost a year old. The 32GB Flash drive failed, which I suspected was due to the limited size partition that Dell uses for the Intel Rapid Start (8GB). Still under warranty, I contacted tech support which was a fiasco.They sent a tech to my house to replace the SSD and possibly the HDD, but he couldn't set them up due to receiving an error that the drive was the wrong size. Dell had sent CDs, but this unit doesn't have a CD drive and the tech didn't bring one. I ended up using another computer and copied the files onto an external drive and then plugged it into the Dell 9530. It still wouldn't work, so he put the original drives back and left. I've been bounced around tech support for 3 days now, and can't seem to get to speak to anyone who can tell me how to partition the new SSD and whether I do need to replace both the HDD and SSD. 

I would think that the new SSD would need to be partitioned outside of windows and be done by booting into the hidden boot repair section of the HDD. Anyone know what the correct steps would be to set up a new SSD, and whether I can retain my current HDD without having to lose the data on it? I actually would just as soon put in a new larger SSD that I can use as my boot drive and then use the existing HDD as a second drive. Since Dell encrypts their drives, how can I copy that info over into a new drive?
