XPS-Slow Webcam - any solution on slow frame rate????

Question

I read others have this problem and wondered if someone found a solution or just commiserate I guess.

Got a new XPS 1530 (June) with 3gb of memory and a T8300 processor. Frame rate on webcam is horrible. I recorded at 640x480 and played it back.

What a disappointment even over store bought $50 webcams.

Played it back and blurry when I moved, no syncing of audio with mouth. Perhaps that is the way I look to others (hope not).

Any solution to this?

Hello all,  if you are reading this and have M1530 slow frame rates on the integrated web cam read on.  I have been to Staples and checked the video on their Studio and XPS-ONE.  The video is flawless.  The XPS-ONE was at 30fps at the high 1280x1024 and on.  The Studio would not show frame rates.  I have a very well lit room at home, so the people stating the lighting is the problem, please stop.  This is the second M1530 in just 2 months of ownership and both had 5-8fps video. There is something else wrong and I am looking for others to add to a thread to get some support from DELL on this.  i did get the web cam to use it but can't.  Just another issue I have with the M1530.  Look for a thread titled 'Fix my M1530 web cam.' and lets hear what you have to say.  Shawn

I am inclined to agree on the sub-par performance of the web cam. I believe Dell incorporated it into the 1530 as yet another means of competing with Apple notebooks. However, the webcam on the 1530 is nowhere near the quality as that found on Macs, despite it being 2.0 MP.

I am about as anti-Mac as they come and I have enjoyed my previous purchases from Dell. However, the poor quality of the webcam is just disappointing. I don't know if it's even fixable, since it would appear to be a hardware issue.

Oh well, maybe they can fix it somehow. Hope so.

I  too am only getting 8 frame a sec on low image sizes even.   Something is wrong here.  xps m1730 should rip through images.

I have the same problem. Strange, in that the frame rate doesn't improve much at lower resolutions, which is what would be expected. However, once in a whil at higher resolutions, I get 30 fps. I think there is a driver problem. Sometime when I have the time, I will look for a better driver.

i aggree. This should be fixable.  I noted the same results.   I did try one of the many creative drivers but it wanted specific hardware to install.  The camara program seemed to have more features than the one dell modified and gave to us.  But i have not fully tested it out.

Turns  out that it was lighting conditions after all (as mentioned elsewhere).  In more full ighting i am now getting 30 fps in high res.
