Hi vinu9420,

You can change the Bluetooth settings and allow other devices to find your computer.

• Click Start/Windows logo on desktop  to display the start menu.

• Type ‘Bluetooth’ in the search box.

• Click on ‘Change Bluetooth Settings’.

• Check the box “Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer”.

• Click on 'OK'.

In case it still does not work, you can update the drivers for the Bluetooth card.

Please check the Bluetooth card for your computer from the ‘Device Manager’.

Open Device Manager by clicking Start/Windows logo on desktop --> ‘Control Panel’ --> ‘System and Maintenance’ --> ‘Device Manager’.‌

Note:  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click on the arrow in front of Network adaptor and check for the Bluetooth card.

You can download the driver for that Bluetooth card from the link below:-

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-15r-5520

Please select your Operating System and category “Network” from the drop down menu.

Select the driver for the Bluetooth card that you see from ‘Device manager’.

Follow the steps below to download and install the Bluetooth driver: -

  • Click 'Download' to download the list to a folder you will designate.
  • Click 'Save'. Then designate the folder you would like to save the files to.
  • Once you have designated the folder you would like to save your files to, Click 'OK'.
  • Selected downloads will automatically start downloading. You can Pause , Stop , or Continue  downloading the items you have selected. Once the download is complete you will have a green check mark. Next is Installation.
  • To start installation, Click Open folder. Double-click a downloaded file to run it.
  • A small window will appear with 'Continue' and 'Exit' buttons, click 'Continue'.
  • In the Select the folder where you want to unzip the files to window, click OK.
  • If a message appears asking to create a folder, click 'Yes'. If a message appears asking to overwrite the folder, click 'Yes to All'.
  • In the All files were successfully unzipped window, click OK.
  • A new window will appear, follow the prompts that appear to finish the installation.
  • Restart your computer then try using the Bluetooth.

Do write back for further queries.

Glad to help.

Hi vinu9420,

Thank you so much for working with me on this issue. As we have exhausted all the troubleshooting options, I will recommend you to reinstate the computer back to factory settings. The issue seems  to be with the operating system configuration or blue tooth adaptor.

Note: Before you proceed with Factory image restore, I will advise you to take a complete backup of your data (pictures, music, applications, videos and documents) as this step leads to complete data loss.

Following are the steps to restore your computer to default factory settings:

1.            Restart PC, press 3-4 times when the Dell logo appears.

2.            Advanced Boot Options menu appears, ‘Repair your Computer' is highlighted, press Enter. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice)

3.             Windows is loading files screen appears. Wait for it to load.

4.            System Recovery Options prompt appears. Specify the language and keyboard input that you want, and then click ‘Next’.

5.            Log in as a user who has administrative credentials; select the username from the drop-down list, type the password and click OK.

6.            Choose a Recovery Tool Window appears, select Dell Data Safe Restore and Emergency Backup.

7.            The Welcome screen will show 2 options; Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files and Select other System Backup and more options. Select the second option (Select other System Backup and more options) and click Next.

8.            The next window shows these options; Backup Files and folders and Restore my computer. Select ‘Restore my computer’.

9.            Select the Factory Image and click ‘Next’.

10.             The next window shows 2 options; 'Preserve new or changed files before restoring to selected System Backup' and 'Restore without preserving new or changed files'. Select the second option (Restore without preserving new or changed files) and click Next.

11.            A prompt appears stating that your computer is about to be restored all data currently on your computer will be deleted and replaced with your selected Full System Backup. If an Emergency File & Folder Backup was created, it will still be saved in the location you selected. Click 'Yes, continue' and click Next.

12.          PC restore will initiate. Once done, click Restart.

13.          Follow the onscreen instructions to create a user account.

Hi Rohan,

In order to assist you in a better way, I would need the system 'Service Tag' of your computer to check the bluetooth card shipped with your computer. I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Hello Chinmay,

I would like to ask your help for my following issue:

I purchased my Dell laptop before Christmas and installed my programs onto it (for example: Office 2010, Avira antivirus, website builder, etc), after than I detected the bluetooth was disappeared and I didn't find any way to switch on again.

Every other hardware works well, the wifi also but when I switch the wifi on-off the bluetooth not respond.

All drivers came from Dell website and I check the Intel website also for better driver, unfortunately I didn't get solution for my problem.

My computer is: Dell Inspiron 5520

Service tag: 20LJHV1

Type of wifi card: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_44628086

Thank you for your response in advance and wish you a happy new year!

With best regards

Alex

Hi rejujoseph,

You can uninstall the wireless/bluetooth from device manager from the steps mentioned in previous post. Once done, you can check the system configuration from the link: http://dell.to/QVOQWC and then install the appropriate drivers from Support website. Click on the below link: http://dell.to/QjjZDA  Enter the Service Tag of your system and select the operating system.

Link to download Quickset: http://dell.to/11dFnmt

If you are not able to find the wireless/bluetooth card installed on your computer, you can private message me the service tag.

Please share the findings.
