dell precision m4400 notebook t9600 overheating
I bought a used M4400, with the T9600 chip on ebay about 1.5 years ago. It worked great. About 4 months ago it started slowing down. It would not run my audio DAW programs- (Audacity) without lagging or... locking up-(ProTools LE), even with about half of my 250G hard drive still free . I deleted ProTools and still had lagging problems. I bought Avira system speed up. I cleaned out all unnecessary files and reinstalled Win7 Home Premium. Then noticed the CPU temps were running as high as 107f. I replaced the fan and cleaned and repasted the heat shields on the CPU and GPU. Now when the Win updates are automatically installing on boot-up, sometimes my CPU temp spikes to 170f!! At other times it stays 78-97f. Does this sound like a bad processor, or?

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum ! This is Jennifer and I work for the Dell Social Media Team .
Now based on the cpu temperature readings we cannot determine if the proc has gone faulty .I would ask you to confirm if you have tried the following steps ,
*Have you had the chance to run the speed fan test on the system .
*Is the system BIOS updated to the latest version .
*Is the Chipset driver and the Intel matrix storage drive updated to the latest version .(If it is not then this is the link to the support site ,enter the system service tag ,os info and install the latest version )

Hi Jennifer and thanks for your suggestions! I have updated the BIOS and chipset drivers as you suggested, using the Dell system analysis tool. I have run SpeedFan, but it does not show me any readings for my fan speed, only for the temperatures. It is like it is not detecting my fan. I just also replaced my fan with a new one. Looking at my fan, it does not seem to be running. Any further insight would be appreciated! Thank you.
