restore to factory state

Hi everybody,

I need a big help... I have to restore my dell vostro 3700 to factory state, but I dont know how. I googled it and just found  the instruction like "restart pc, then press F8>repair your computer>choose language>log in as administrator and then choose recovery tool> dell datasafe restore and emergency back-up

It would be ok, but I dont have there the option of "dell datasafe restore and emergency back-up" I have there just startup repair, system restore, system image recovery, windows memory diagnostic, command prompt and that's all... I miss there the 6th option. If anybody got an idea how to fix it, I would be really thankfull... Thanks Guys

For the Vostro 3700 you don't need any CD or DVD - at least with this particular Vostro 3700.  There's already an image on the hard drive in a hidden parttion

1)Boot up the laptop, as soon as you see the Dell logo press the F8 key (not F+8) repeatedly 4 or 5 times

2)A Menu will appear.  From the menu choose System Recovery.

3)Once in the System Recovery options choose Dell Backup and Recovery Manager

4)then choose the Dell Image which should load in the drop down menu by default click next and follow all prompts

5) This will install the OS and all the Dell Drivers as it was shipped from the Dell Factory.

Side Note:  you might want to run the diagnostics from the F12 menu first (press F12 key when you see the Dell logo at bootup) if you suspect a hard drive issue. Verify the hard drive has no errors once the diagnostic is completed then proceed with above steps

On step 2, the menu option to choose may be "Repair my computer" on some laptops. Mine had no System Recovery option.

You will need to do a manual install:

Hi Lumcak,

This is Shomprakash from the Dell Social Media Team. I'd be happy to assist you with this query.

From what you've mentioned, it seems like the original factory image may have been removed, which has resulted in the absence of "Dell Datasafe Local Backup and Restore".

In the absence of a factory imagem we can try installing a Fresh Copy of Windows Instead.

The link containing step-by step instructions for the same, is at :

support.dell.com/.../document

Once you've done this, Kindly install the requisite drivers and utilities for your machine by entering your system's service tag at http://support.dell.com

Needless to say, it is extremely essential to backup your data before performing a re-installation as the process is irreversible.

Also, once you have installed windows and requisite applications, you can "Create" a new base factory image by installing the Dell Datasafe Local Backup application from

tinyurl.com/datasafe2012

I hope this helps!

Kindest Regards,
