EMC interoperability with Emulex HBA and ESX drivers
Installed ESX 3.5u4 into a host with LP11002E HBA with CLARiion CX4-120 backend.
HBA drivers installed with 3.5u4 are elx_7.4.0.40, yet EMC is telling me that only supported drivers are elx_7.4.0.13 which came with 3.5u2. EMC tech is telling me that I must downgrade to 3.5u2 for interoperability. This does not make me happy as there are business reasons why U4 is a more desired platform.
What the deal with the Emulex LP11002E drivers and certified support? Do the interoperability docs need a refresh? Or do I really need to downgrade to 3.5u2? And if I do need to downgrade what the roadmap for elx_7.4.0.40 interoperability support?
regards,
~Patrick

All released updates to ESX Server version are supported unless otherwise specified by a footnote. Please contact server vendor for the update level required for a specific server.
There are no footnotes for ESX. Because U4 was release on 31th ..support matrix has not been updated yet. I would not mess with integrated ESX drivers.

Indeed there is a footnote in the interop guide that states; "All released updates to ESX Server version are supported unless otherwise specified by a footnote. Please contact server vendor for the update level required for a specific server." We bounced it back to the EMC rep and see how it plays.
A matrix on the same page as the above footnote also states an explicit supported driver version - where the EMC tech is hung up. I guess where I don't feel completely satisfied with this answer is the question; "does the footnote apply to the entire server release including the HBA driver?" I get that this is probably a very fine point, but these are production servers and EMC support is at stake as well. So even a little ambiguity makes me very hesitant.
Any official EMC comment on this?
