Dell Inspiron Upgrade

Question

I have an Inpiron Laptopm, i7, 16gb Ram. Its a few years old now,

I have been looking to upgrade it but looking at this range I cant see a better spec than what we have now.

We have started playing Fortnite and Halo on it and its maxing out the CPU and the video, sound and game quality is suffering. We would like to do some in game recording but that really pushes it beyond its design.

For reasons too complex to describe, I would like to keep the same box but am happy to really go for it in the interior.

Reading about changing motherboards in the Dell is beyond me. I am looking for someone or some company in the UK to either steer me through this and probably do the upgrade.

I am happy to pay the market rate.

The limiting factor is that it has to be in the same case.

Is this upgrade possible and is anyone up for helping me and get paid?

The precise answer is that it really depends on the exact model system you have. Anything newer than 2013 is not upgradable CPU-wise, and nothing made in the last 10-12 years will be upgradable in the GPU area. You cannot fit anything but the original system board in any of these, so there's no option there.

Even the newest G-series Inspirons are entry level for gaming - for a true gaming system, you're looking at a bare minimum of $1500-$1700 and for anything demanding, think $2,000+ for a new system.

You may want to consider another option for those games: a desktop system. You get twice the horsepower per dollar with a desktop as you do with a notebook system, together with the ability to more easily upgrade components when the need arises.

Your current system, whatever the model is a dead end.

I have a little more detail about the kit and the issue...

We have the setup described below which I have used for office work and its worked perfectly. I have now passed this to my son to do schoolwork on and play games on.

The good news is, he can play Minecraft, Fortnite and Halo (on Steam) great.

But

He wants to try recording his games to post to share on social.

He’s tried several screen recording tools and gets the same problem whenever he tries it, the games become jerky and don’t always respond to inputs. They still run, but the experience jumps about.

We have two monitors, an old VGA which plugs straight into the machine, and a NVIDI GeForce GTX 750 Ti, which runs a second monitor. Its not a fancy monitor. The video details being

We tried the benchmark tool UserBenchmark (results available) and it suggest the graphics cards are limited. This may be the case, but until its recording, the games run great, so I do wonder if there is a hard disk lag, or if a graphics are a bottleneck. Or even if stepping upto 32gb memory would help.

Id appreciate f anyone has any ideas what the component might be that’s causing this and how I can address it. Im happy to go with a new GPU/more memory and a faster SSD drive, but I if there are any ideas what might be best first thing to try I would prefer not to upgrade all three, if one upgrade would fix it?

It also says the NVIDIA video card is running very poor and “Way below expectations”. Would that mean that the video adapter is just too old/underrated, or since it says it is below expectations could that mean there is something I could do to get it used more effectively?
