Dimension 3000, Windows 10, SSD?

Does anyone know if a fresh install of Windows 10 can be installed on a Dell Dimension 3000 and if I can replace the HDD in it with a SSD?

15year old relic PC. with Pentium 4,  (which one you never told) what exact CPU do you have?

Chip set Intel 865 GV

yes w10 if cpu  is correct, (and 865 does not fail)

and

no your PC is  IDE -PATA not SATA PC,  so you can just  use modern 2001  SATA drives and newer.

I tested  P4 - HT 520J   CPU and runs 32bit W10 on 946chip set but ive never tried 865. nor want to.

Only the newest P4 run w10, not the old ones and only the newest STEPPINGS (die revision max)

why not just try w10 32bit, costs you not a dime,  its free to try for 30 days. what stops you from trying?

why mess with this old dog PC, it has zero value nor future.

get dell 9020MT  and move on. is my answer.

see these 5 arrows, all are NO ,  no good in the modern world. PATA no,  PCI NO.

15 YEAR OLD pentium 4 machines do not meet Minimum requirements for windows 8 let alone 10.

This will never work with ANY version of 8 or 10 because NX and LAHF and SAHF and CMPXGH 16 ETC are not supported.

Oldest machine that supports 10 is OPTIPLEX GX620 tower with at least Pentium D 915.

Pressler 900 series cpus are required to run and install 10.

speedstep you are right  but not 100% right, sorry facts.

I have  P4 HT, running w10-64., here,  with the correct newest P4 made, HT, newest stepping

in fact even runs 64bit, w10

 531/551(64Bit only fails) 631/651does both 32/64.  , See note#1   5x0 does not work 64bit. 6x1 is best.

off my w10 relics page. testing. I tested all old CPU to learn this, do you test this or just parrot others, I test them.

tested on relic actual intel,  D945GPM & Prescott CPU,  651 (first 64bit) FACTS ! not rumors.

but yes the 3000 PC need to be used for a boat anchor, or sent to IRAN. free.

also on a

Athlon 64x2 F2+ (only  F2/F3 stepping up in all cases)   64bit runs here too,  Yes, I tested this my self, not dredging up rumors endless.

(all tests with w10 v1903)fresh from MS, ISO.  no dell DVDs, here. real MS OS. fresh, and clean.

so Some P4 do run,  and you are wrong.

Dimension 3000 is from 2003

Pentium 4 631 is from 2006 and its LGA 775

  • Dimension 3000  Chipset Type   Intel 865GV
  • Processor Socket  Socket 478

So your assessment that the Socket 478 dimension 3000 board works with LGA 775 is nonsense.   Earliest Models that support 64 bit windows 8.1 or 10 are from 2006 aka Optiplex GX620,  Precision 380,  XPS 400.

I'm not aware of ANY Socket 478 processors that allow Pentium D anything.  There are CPU that do NX but those are rare,SL8JX

I also doubt however that HT, NX is in the chipset, microcode or bios on 2003 to 2005 models.

The cpus you describe are LGA 775 not socket 478.

Intel refers to the NX bit as the XD bit (Execute Disable Bit).  There are ZERO Processors that are SOCKET 478 that support this.  NX is required for windows 8 or 10.

Any socket 478 Dell will NEVER RUN windows 8 or 10. PAE, SSE2, NX, CMPXCHG16b   is required for 64 bit windows 10 which is why the Smithfield Pentium D will not run 64bit windows 8.1 or 10 but will run 32 bit windows 8.1 or 10.

Windows 8.1 and later requires Physical Address Extension (PAE), No-eXecute (NX), and Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2). Windows 8.1 & 10 (64-bit) also requires CMPXCHG16b (CX16) feature to be present in the processor. There is a small admin command prompt utility called CoreInfo which lets you see whether these features are supported by your processor or not. You can download CoreInfo tool from Sysinternals. (Direct download link here)
