Dimension E521, CPU upgrade
I have a Dell Dimension E521 with a AMD Athlon 64 5000+, and i want to upgrade it to a 6000+ (89 watt Windsor) and i was wondering if it was compatible with the BIOS revision on my motherboard (version 1.1.8)
a quick reply would be appreciated as the 6000+ im looking at on ebay has 6 watchers.
Thank you

The nvidia GeForce 6150 integrated video is horrible.
You would be happier with a Geforce GT1030 GDDR5 version than a new cpu.
The Dell internal parts page for this model does not list a 6000+ CPU.
XP clean install should be used to update bios or MSDOS Floppy.
ANY ANTIVIRUS software installed on ANY Version of windows will brick the board during bios update and you are done.
The highest validated are =
DR246 AMD Athlon 64X2, 5600+, 2.80GHz, 1MBX2, Dual Core, 89w
PU630 AMD Athlon 64X2, 5600+, 2.80GHz, 1MX2, Dual Core, 89w
Socket AM2
I do not know if
AMD ADA6000IAA6CZ
Athlon X2 6000+ AM2 3.0GHZ 2MB 90NM 89W
works. Likely not without current bios.
The following changes were made to BIOS revision 1.1.4:
1. Fixed issue where the USB keyboard would not work in the front ports when a USB 2.0 hub was connected in rear USB port 2.
2. Reverted back to Nvidia integrated video BIOS from version 5.51.28.50.18 to 5.51.28.42.00. Video BIOS version 5.51.28.50.18 caused a Dell Diagnostics video test failure.
3. Updated AMD Agesa Micro code from revision 2.6.11 to 2.8.00
AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture (AGESA) translation updated the micro code library, to fix bugs and or add more CPU's to the support list for that chipset.

CPU microcode ("µCode") is a small piece of software that the hardware manufacturer (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) write to achieve optimal performance at hardware-level. As with any software, sometimes there are performance problems that can be solved via the CPU µCode. It is also required for newer processors.

well the AMD Athlon 64 X2 "ADA6000IAA6CZ" or "ADA6000CZBOX" 3.0Ghz 6000+ CPU could work with the E521 computer with the latest BIOS version available. maybe even upgrade the power supply (PSU) to what Corsair, Seasonic has to at least 400watts if the stock PSU in the E521 may not be able to handle that 6000+ processor.
do keep in mind it is only a minor CPU upgrade from 5000+ to 6000+ as it is a small performance boost
