Graphics card

Does this computer work with Adobe premiere. I have the dell inspiron compact desktop 3880. Specs for Adobe say I need an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970. I don’t know if this computer has a comparable graphics card. If not, can I upgrade the graphics card?

Thank you.

Dell offers low end OEM nvidia gt 730 or gt 1030 discrete card w the 3880.  The 3880 has either a 200 or 260w psu, neither of which can support high end GTX 970 which needs a 6 pin PCIe power connector.

if you use basic online psu calculator the bare minimum psu for GTX 970 in 3880: Recommended PSU Wattage: 343 W

A video card comparable to 970 would be gtx 1060.  1060 also requires a 6 pin.

if you still want to invest in gpu upgrade, first consider upgrade your psu to at least 360w or 460w Dell proprietary psu that has a 6 pin connector (for optiplex 7080 or 7071).

Dell proprietary psu upgrade sits inside 3880 case.

gtx 970 nvidia reference spec:

Recommended System Power (W)* 500
2x 6-pins Supplementary Power Connectors
* Recommendation is made based on PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2 GHz processor. Pre-built system may require less power depending on system configuration.

In a prebuilt pc you often do not need to match nvidia recommendation which is usually overestimated to account for other DIY pc components.
third party GTX 970 often exceeds nvidia reference due to factory OC or custom cooling.

Dell 460 w psu: 4FWF7, 92WNC

Dell 500w psu:  5K 7J8,Y7R0X, 99TPH

3880 dimension Depth: 293 mm (11.54 in.)
can fit a full length nvidia reference founder edition card.
GeForce GTX 970 card's dimensions are 267 mm x 111 mm x 40 mm,

PS Dell 360 w psu: YCRD7, 2VD0G has only one 6 pin, not enough for GTX 970

Brad is correct.

Wouldn't a PSU upgrade likely mean PSU sitting outside of the case?

The 148w GTX 970 requires 1x6-pin and 1x8-pin connector.  GeForce recommends 500w PSU minimum.  460w Dell PSU may do the trick.  I wouldn't chance just going with 365w PSU.

@redxps630

I'd like to suggest more precision when suggesting PSU's that aren't listed for the model the OP has.  For example, whether it be model #'s, or what Dell model they come from, etc., so OP and/or others can easily find it.

Also - Would a GTX 970 fit in an Inspiron 3880?  @Drew702 said "compact," but doesn't the 3880 just come in 1 size, the small tower?
