IAStorIcon, SATA Hard Drive, & Windows 10

Long story short, recently I updated my Inspiron 3668 to Windows 10. Today I confirmed that the IAStorIcon file in my computer is not compatible with this version of Windows. (Recently I had been getting the message "Intel Rapid Storage Technology is reporting one or more warnings, and data maybe at risk.")

Trying different things, I checked the computer with SupportAssist. It found serious issues with my SATA Hard Drive and recommended that I upgrade it. Before proceeding I’d like to know if these two things, the IAStoriIcon file situation and the issues that SupportAssist found are related.

My computer,as I said, is an Inspiron 3668. It uses a SATA hard disk model Toshiba DT01ACA100. I am using Windows 10 Home, Version 21H1

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Possible those error are related, but you won't know for sure until you replace the drive.

Image your HDD on external media ASAP!  You can use any imaging app you choose and there are some very good free ones like Macrium Reflect. And use the imaging app to create a bootable USB stick that you'll need to restore the image onto a new HDD (or SSD) so you won't have to reinstall everything from scratch.

Then reboot the PC and tap F12 at the Dell splash screen to open the F12 menu. Select the option to run Diagnostics and run all of them, including RAM and HDD. Post error message(s), if any, here.

Then decide whether to get another HDD, or get an SSD which should speed up this PC's performance.

Please press the blue Accept as Solution button below if this post answers your question.

IASTOR is the INTEL Rapid Storage Driver.

It is VERY SPECIFIC for windows 10 and The 3668.
