Inspiron 3455, compatible screens

I have a cracked screen/bezel assembly on my Inspiron 3455

I have found one on the 'net that says it's for a 3464 but LOOKS identical.

Dell PN for the replacement screen being offered is 6DM4W. Any chance it will work with the 3455??

The seller has no clue.

Thanks

Models like this may have 3 or more vendors with 3 or more VIDEO cables that are not interchangeable. Samsung cable does not work on Hitachi Panel does not work on Viewsonic panel does not work on etc.

EDIT: Checked with my supplier  TOTALLY Different panel.

You would have to find out which vendor makes the panel.

Thanks for your reply.   My unit looks as though the bezel and digitizer and display are all  integral.   The one you pointed to on Ebay is ONLY the digitizer/display I think.  The one I mentioned (Newegg) looks EXACTLY like mine; however the picture is from a weird angle.

I'm probably going to have to take mine apart to be sure of what I really need.  Thanks again.

You might want to contact Dell's Out-Of-Warranty Repair service to get an estimate for having them replace the screen, if nothing else than to compare that cost to the price of purchasing the screen yourself for a DIY project.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can buy a new computer cheaper than what Dell would charge for the new screen/digitizer.

As someone else suggested, it is a BOE device as per the Service Tag. Unfortunately it shows BLACK for my unit (which is WHITE) so makes me wonder if I can trust their info.

Thanks to all.  Great info here.

Does "BOE" mean "Board of Education" or something else...? And in that case, why are you trying to fix it on your own?

You might be surprised. From what some other users have posted, Dell's Out-Of-Warranty repair can be quite reasonably priced. And it only takes a phone call, that doesn't obligate you, to find out. But it's entirely your decision....

Well, I opened the **bleep** thing up and whilst my service tag "inventory" on Dell's web site says I have a BOE, display the manufacturer is listed as LG.

Also is  the digitizer itself glued onto the front case or what??   Anyone know??

I'm wondering now if Best Buy sold me a refurbished unit as NEW.

Well, I ordered the BOE unit from Ebay for $60 new.  Arrived, but had no digitizer (at least no connections).  Returning it today.

From the same seller, ordered the LG unit with numbers Identical to my original.  Pics also look identical.

It also lists that it is for a 3464 (like the one on Newegg).  Best part is it's only $20 new.  Sounds fishy, right??  But the seller has a 99%+ rating with thousands of previous sales. And it seems he may have MANY available for that price.

We will see......

And yet the backside pic from newegg shows digitizer and controller and MANY other cables.

Note this is 6 different pieces and cablesNote this is 6 different pieces and cables

If you bought it directly from Dell they'd stand behind it. But unlikely since you bought it from who-knows-who and who-knows-where it's been and what may have happened to it. So you'll have to take it up with the seller on eBay.

Is it starting to sound like the problem might be downstream of the digitizer..?

LONG SHOT: Did you try clearing BIOS by removing the motherboard battery and pressing/holding power button for ~30 sec before replacing the battery? Is it time for a  fresh battery while you're at it?

OK, the replacement LG component arrived and it is IDENTICAL to the one shown in the picture of the LG assembly pictured in the previous message. Has exact part number as in MY original 3455 AIO. Put it all together and everything fit and connected perfectly. And everything WORKS perfectly except for the digitizer itself. It is unresponsive. I've asked the seller to verify that the replacement screen/digitizer is in fact NEW, as he stated on his EBay posting. If so, I'd hope that Dell would stand behind the unit if it is indeed defective out of the box. I've also reseated the three ribbon cables that connect the actual digitizer to the digitizer control board. No help there. There seems to be some confusion i whether or not the touchscreen need a driver.... I've searched the DELL site using my service tag number and it states that my drivers are all up to date. Yet, their (DELL) diagnostic program (run just on the touch screen component) "hangs" every time I run it. FWIW, I've been doing PC hardware installs/mods/etc for over 20 years, so I'm not completely ignorant of these sort of things (in case someone was wondering).

And I will try your suggestion of resetting the BIOS.

No problem, the seller is good.   I just want the **bleep** thing to work, not get my money back.

For a measly $20, I wouldn't fuss too much to at least have the cracks in the front of the display gone.

Let's not use words that the forum's software has to **bleep**.

And let us know if clearing BIOS helps...

This is my final answer......

Thanks to all for the help.  The second screen assembly (identical to the one on NewEgg) was flawless AFTER I checked a couple more connectors having to do with the touchscreen.  EVERYTHING is now working.

Again, the one I got from Ebay (and am now using) is perfect and only cost $19.99 with FREE shipping.  And FAST shipping as well.

FWIW, I recommend this seller highly  :
