Inspiron 3650, GTX 1060 upgrade?

Hi! I have had an Inspiron 3650, and I would like to add a GPU to it. I was wondering if a NVIDIA GTX 1060 would be compatible with it if it fits. (I will be upgrading the power supply if it is compatible so that won't be a problem) Thanks!

There is a specific GTX 1060 that Fits and works.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 06G-P4-6163-KR,
6GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC), Only 6.8 Inches

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487261

HOWEVER you need to hack the power supply as the stock unit is too tiny and too small.  The 4 pin ATX power connection is fine but the 24 Pin needs an adapter to 8 pins. Recommended power supply is also very specific.EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B1, 80+ BRONZE 750W, 110-B1-0750-VR

The B1 works fine.  B2 BQ G2 GS etc DOES NOT WORK.  You have to remove the stock unit and leave the new unit OUTSIDE The case because it physically does not fit inside.  Secure Boot must be OFF and Legacy CSM on.

Also Legacy CSM Boot does not seem to work for me. Every time I try it, it shows No Boot Drive Available and to click any key to reboot. I had to change it back to UEFI boot for it to start up. Anyone know a solution to this problem?

Just to make sure,

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 06G-P4-6163-KR, 6GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC), Only 6.8 Inches

WILL work on the Inspiron 3650 right? Also, will I need to disable SecureBoot and enable Legacy CSM?

A lot of times on this community I have seen posts that say 12" GPU's do not fit/work in the Inspiron 3650 MT PC. However, I got a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 to fit and work inside of my Inspiron 3650. Just a tip to others, many GPU's of the same/smaller size will indeed fit, sometimes just barely, into the case, and may open up a whole lot more GPU's when upgrading the PC!

What specific GTX 1060? MSI, EVGA, etc? And it works with our 240w PSU?

"WILL work on the Inspiron 3650 right? Also, will I need to disable SecureBoot and enable Legacy CSM"

It will and DOES WORK.  HOWEVER the stock Power supply DOES NOT Support this card.  You have to get a 24 pin to 8 pin adapter,   a 750W EVGA Super nova B1 power supply,  REMOVE THE STOCK unit,  and run the wires into the hole left behind with the PSU OUTSIDE THE CASE because it does not physically fit inside.

There are Dell specific cards that work but I don't know what the part numbers for these OEM versions are

NVIDIA GeForce GT705 / GT730 — 2 GB GDDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT720 — 1 GB GDDR3
AMD Radeon R9 360  — 2 GB GDDR5

The Gigabyte Windforce RX460 also works GV-RX460WF2OC-4GD

The specific EVGA card that I know works because I use one is

https://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-6163-KR

12 inch Video cards or even 10 inch cards do not physically fit inside the case. This is why ANY card must be the Single Fan Variety or if Dual Fan must be 8 inches or less long.

with

The 3650 has a laptop size power supply.  So if you want to use a regular power supply you have to get an adapter cable AND put the power supply OUTSIDE the case running the wires inside thru the hole that the internal power supply leaves when you remove it.

While the 1060 mini may fit in the case BARELY the stock power supply is too small.  Some have overcome this Limitation by removing the tiny power supply completely and running the wires for a standard EPS12v supply in the back thru the hole left by removing the power supply and using an adapter.

This requires an adapter.

speedstep, understood about the PSU. He just never mentioned that he removed our 240w PSU when he said he got it to work. So was seeking clarification.

Isnt a 750 watt power supply to much for a gtx 1060 3gb super clocked for my Dell Inspiron 3650 computer?

Yes sorry about that. It was a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Founders Edition made by NVIDIA. PSU upgraded to EVGA 550W, bought an extra 24 pin to 8 pin to power motherboard, extra 6 pin to power GPU.

Here you go. I upgraded my 3650 with a 600w internal power supply and a 1080ti. Instructions and pics are in my post here:

I hope this helps.
