Inspiron 3670 Expansion
Having been a Dell user for a thousand years... I am so irritated at Dell, and the Moro..... in tech support that have tp spew out the lies
I bought this system purposely to install a second drive... and it has a mounting place for a 2.5" drive.
But the cheap as heck power supply has no extra power ports.
option: mod the existing one.... no
option: buy another power supply... why?
option: return system... what a waste, but thats the deal
So asked the Tech support guy... why advertise the box as having an expansion slot, yet no provision for power, and dell does not offer an option,,,,,,,,,,, arrrrrrrgh

Default power supply is only 290W
There is an optional 365W power supply that supports the Dell GTX 1060.
Its an 8 pin proprietary power supply.
There are Short versions of cards that fit as well as PROPRIETARY power supply.

Dell OEM full height but short PCI-E video cards work.
Non Dell cards require Secure Boot OFF and Legacy Option Roms on.

anger and fast fingers,
to finish, when I called and asked tech support why it is advertised with an expansion slot, but no provisions for power, he went away for a bit , came back and said "we do not sell that series to be upgraded"

The Inspiron 3670 specs say:
So you have plenty of choices to add storage. If you have one 3.5-inch HDD now, you'd have to remove it in order to install two 2.5-inch drives. So your easiest route might be to install an SSD in the PCI-e x4 slot as the boot drive, assuming you don't have Optane memory in that slot now, and use your existing HDD for storage. (Note: You could always replace the Optane with an SSD.)
And most importantly, the SATA HDDs do NOT connect directly to the PSU in this PC model. They connect to "hard-drive power cable connectors (SATA PWR)" on the motherboard, #5 and #8 in the motherboard photo in the Service Manual. You do need a special cable that goes from the SATA port on the HDD to the 6-pin connector on the motherboard, which you can order directly from Dell Spare Parts or possibly elsewhere.
So stop ranting and do your homework...!

Back in the day, all mother boards were the same as far a power supplies connecting to the mother board. Today, there are 3 types with a full motherboard being the most expensive. I wanted to add a video card. I cannot because the power supply is only 290 watts. You need at least 300 watts for a video card. The mother board is the lowest end board possible. It is the cheapest. It has only an 8 pin power connection and a 4 pin CPU power connection whereas all other power supplies have a 24 pin power connection to the mother board. I am not sure about the CPU power connection, but the 450 watt power supply has an split 8 pin connector for the CPU power connection. This is a pathetic system because it is not upgrade-able. during the DOS days, I could upgrade anything. Now I can't. UNBELIEVABLE! On another subject of hard drives, I bought a device that makes my 2 seta drives external drives which plugs into a 2.0 USB port which solves the problem of mounting hard drives into this system.
