Inspiron 530, CPU compatibility
I have a Inspiron 530 circa 2009. I purchased a used / tested Q9650, when I installed it all I got was a constant running computer with the amber light at the on / off button. When I pushed the on / off button to turn it off, nothing, so I needed to turn off at PSU. I contacted the seller and they said I needed to upgrade my BIOS but my BIOS (1.0.18, 2 / 24 /2009) is at it's latest version. Is it the CPU or something else I should know and do with my computer b4 install of the Q9650?

Is the power button steady amber or blinking amber? From the Service Manual:
If the power light is steady amber, there may be a power problem or an internal device malfunction.
– Ensure that all power cables are securely connected to the system board
– Ensure that the main power cable and front panel cable are securely connected to the system board.
If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, a device might be malfunctioning or incorrectly installed.
– Remove and then reinstall the memory modules.
– Remove and then reinstall any cards.
– Remove and then reinstall the graphics card, if applicable
Did you clear BIOS and install a fresh motherboard battery after installing the CPU?
Looks like Dell validated these CPUs:
N652J Q9650 3.00GHz Yorkfield
N650J Q9500 2.66GHz Yorkfield
N650J Q9400 2.66GHz Yorkfield
C863D QX9300 2.50GHz Yorkfield

Only Specifc G33 M03 board supports quads AND you must have the 350W POWER SUPPLY in a TOWER not the SLIM model. VOSTRO 200 / INSPIRON 530
The G33M02 motherboard does not support any Core 2 Quad processors, to use any Core 2 Quad CPU, you need a G33m03 motherboard.
The reason the G33M02 doesn't support Core 2 Quad processors, is because it only has 6 voltage regulator ICs, the G33M03 has 11.
