Inspiron 5675, Ryzen 2 CPU compatible?

Hello,

I was wondering if the BIOS for this desktop allows you to upgrade to Ryzen 2? Mine has the A10-9700 so I want the performance boost.

In checking the Inspiron 5675 parts page today, there are two new listings for AMD Ryzen 2 R7 2700/2700X Pinnacle Ridge CPU's =

MDT18 Ryzen 2 R7-2700X, 8C/16T, 3.70GHz, 105w, Pinnacle Ridge
8N7VW Ryzen 2 R7-2700, 8C/16T, 3.20GHz, 65w, Pinnacle Ridge
FG1D4 Ryzen R7-1800X, 8C/16T, 3.60GHz, 95w, Summit Ridge
MNFC8 Ryzen R7-1700X, 8C/16T, 3.40GHz, 95w, Summit Ridge
C7K4M Ryzen R7-1700, 8C/16T, 3.00GHz, 65w, Summit Ridge
DP3VX Ryzen R5-2500X, 4C/8T, 3.60GHz, 65w, Summit Ridge
J0CKH Ryzen R5-1600X, 6C/12T, 3.60GHz, 95w, Summit Ridge
HDPTM Ryzen R5-1400, 4C/8T, 3.20GHz, 65w, Summit Ridge
TRYPJ Ryzen R3-1200, 4C/4T, 3.10GHz, 65w, Summit Ridge
KMF13 A10-9700, 3.50GHz, 65w, AM4, Bristol Ridge
RT9MT A12-9800, 3.80GHz, 65w, AM4, Bristol Ridge

But, we sold the Inspiron 5675 with three motherboard part numbers =
477DV Summit Ridge + Asetek liquid cooler
7PR60 Summit Ridge
XFRWW Bristol Ridge

Will the Ryzen 2 Pinnacle Ridge CPU's work on all motherboards? Unknown.

We won't know until someone tries -- but the most likely answer is no, it won't.

Generally, Dell does not add "future" CPU support once a PC has shipped. Future CPU would go on future PC. Adding that support on an already released PC model would cut into our sales of newer PC model with that future CPU. Currently, the best CPU you can use is the Dell OEM Ryzen R7-1800X =

Any hope of a bios upgrade?  If it's the same socket that's usually the only thing that holds it back from working.  Other thing is sometimes the chip itself might have tiny differences according to the specific core and some work while other's don't. We went through that with some of the high end 9300 series AMD only specific cores would work on the gigabyte board that I had.

Look at the XPS Intel series (8900, 8910, 8920, 8930) and you'll see that each time Intel has released a new platform, Dell has released a new model.

The likelihood is that the current Ryzen systems will never support the new second-generation chips.  It's often NOT just a BIOS update - the voltage regulator requirements very often differ, and most ODM boards are designed around a very limited set of parameters -- meaning they don't have much future-proofing in them.

It'd be a miracle if the situation were different this time, and the current Ryzen platforms from Dell (and the other ODM-selling vendors) turn out to have support for second-generation CPUs.

That makes sense for Intel... However AMD has committed to using the same AM4 socket for future ryzen releases. This support would come in the form of a bios update. This might be one of the few times were Dell could possibly support a BIOS update and allow people to use Ryzen 2nd gen CPU's. I might be testing it with a 2700 soon.

@Vheissus310I agree that it should work, and would require a simple BIOS update. I checked with Dell support, and they claimed that 2000 series of chips will not be supported. The latest BIOS for this system is dated March 29th, so it may or may not have added support for these.

I'd really like to know whether this upgrade works out for you, please keep us posted.

Please let us know your finding. I'm interested in updating my r5 1400 to 2nd gen. Probably sometimes in the future.

Thank you

Do you have any updates on this?

That's very encouraging. I guess management made that decision because it was cheaper to reuse the existing model rather than design a whole new motherboard (and maybe chassis.). Hopefully those of us who bought the original 5675 will be able to upgrade. I wonder if the stock R7 1700 cooler would have enough heat dissipation for a 2700X.

I got the Ryzen R7 1800X but when I put started it is only showing 2 out of the 8 cores and is only using 4 threads. I have installed AMD Ryzen Master and It says 6 of the Cores had been disabled and to enable I would need to update bios? But would dell every provide another for the 5675 again?

Reinstall Windows .Or look up the work around for that on the and forums. I think ya installed the wrong version of rayzen master  and it does that . Cause ya most likely installed the version of ryzen master for .Threadrippers

They would work as long as they update the buos to support. Newer CPUs.  Ryzen second gen is supported on all x370  motherboards I won one a Dell amd  gaming PC from the e3 colosium live stream this year .And it a ryzen 7 2700 x on a Dell x370 motherboard

And your tdp watt profiles are wrong for those CPUs .ya guys need to update the CPU specs to the proper ones  if they listed like that.
