Inspiron 5680, POST error, can’t boot into BIOS?
I need help with:
POST error (can’t boot into BIOS)
-Tried to reset by: 1. Remove battery 2. Jumper clear 3. Power button drain. (all done with power cord pulled)
-Tried Dell BIOS recovery key sequence CTRL + ESC to initiate boot recovery then feed it a USB but I can’t get to the boot recovery screen. (Note OS moved to new SSD)
Computer is a new Dell Inspiron 5680 (i5)
Added:
-RAM
-500MB M.2 NVMe SSD (new primary OS disk)
-4TB HDD (backup disk)
-Reformatted supplied 1TB HHD (program disk)
ALL new hardware additions worked well together booted estimated 20 or 30X times for days before my BIOS adjustment error.
I changed:
-Dell safe boot (ON) and turning (off) legacy support
-disabled boot options for ipv4 and IPV6
I was trying to clear a “checking media presence” boot error as I could not set a drive boot sequence in the BIOS.
Tried removing all connected peripherals except original ram and video card still no boot into BIOS.
I’m unaware of any other methods to clear/reset/flash BIOS without loading from a programming header on the motherboard if available.
Any advice or do I need a new motherboard?
Thanks

Exactly what do you mean by "POST error (can't boot into BIOS")? Do you get an actual error message or does it just continue to straight to booting Windows?
Did you recently run a BIOS update, either manually or through SupportAssist?
If you press F2 too slowly, you miss the option to open BIOS setup, especially with an SSD as the boot drive. So power on and IMMEDIATELY tap F2.
If you reset BIOS to the defaults, you turned those ipv4 and ipv6 options back on and they seem to be related to the original error you had.
You can't set a boot sequence in BIOS with Win 10. Windows Boot Manager manages that.

Hi Chris.
The system advises me I have reached a maximum number of PM's (2 with the Dell virtual assistant back on 07-13-2019) so I can't PM you.
The machine is registered to me and I have the service tag. Can/should I post that here?
I can't boot into windows or get into the BIOS as I had many times over the week I had it running making hardware and BIOS adjustments.

My computer will not move past a black screen into windows or the BIOS.
No other changes except what I listed above.
when the computer was working I changed:
-Dell safe boot (ON) and turning (off) legacy support
-disabled boot options for ipv4 and IPV6
Next boot was to a black screen.
