Inspiron 5680, U2715H, DisplayPort problem
Hi all,
Just unboxed my Inspiron 5680 and having issues displaying to Dell U2715H monitor via DisplayPort.
When connected there seems to be no signal coming from the computer:
Inspiron 5680 -> DisplayPort -> P2412H
I then tested with the following and it does not work as well:
Inspiron 5680 -> HDMI -> P2412H
It seems like the row of DisplayPort and HDMI at the back of the Inspiron is not outputting signal.
If I test with another monitor via DVI it works
Inspiron 5680 -> DVI - > P2412H
The Dell U2715H via DisplayPort definitely works as I have been using it via the Dell Dock with my laptop.
I have tried while using P2412H and connecting the U2715H as a second monitor but the computer did not recognised the second display.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any clue on how to diagnose the problem.
Thanks

It sounds like you may be connecting the monitor to the onboard DP video port instead of to the add-in video card (assuming you have an add-in video card).
Check out the back views here. The onboard DP is #1 in the Back Panel figure on page 17. The add-in video card will be further down in the PCI-e x16 slot, #7 in the Back view on page 15.
Also, keep in mind that most monitors are "dumb". They don't automatically detect the input video port that's being used. Assuming the monitor has an On-Screen Display (OSD) that's opened by pressing one or more keys on the monitor itself, make sure the input source is correctly set in the OSD to the video port you want to use.
EDIT: The first monitor has to be connected to the add-in video card. A second and third monitor can also be connected to the add-in card too, assuming it supports 2 or 3 monitors. In some instances a second monitor can be connected to one of the onboard video ports (using Intel Graphics), as long as at least one is connected to the add-in card first.

Thanks Ron.
I have already tried what you have recommended. It seems like all the ports on the add-in video card in the PCI-e x16 slot is not working for this monitor, DisplayPort or HDMI.

Open the case and carefully reseat the video card in the x16 slot.
If that doesn't work, contact Dell Tech Support ASAP for assistance since the PC is just out of the box and should be under warranty.

What do you mean by add in card? I’m looking into getting a monitor with a display port although I want to make sure I can connect it. Do I have to buy a separate adapter to connect it?

Exactly which PC model do you have?
PCs have Intel Graphics which is built into the microprocessor, and they may also have a removable add-in video card that plugs into a slot on the motherboard. Add-in video cards are made either by AMD or NVIDIA.
If you also have an Inspiron 5680, look at the back panel views starting on page 15 in the link I posted above. If you have an add-in video card it will be #7 on page 15. See if that card has a DisplayPort connector. If not, you may need an adapter to connect the card to a monitor that has a DisplayPort input. (The first monitor has to be connected to the add-in card.)
If you don't have an add-in video card, you can use the onboard DisplayPort connector on the 5680, (#1, page 17) to connect directly to a monitor with DisplayPort input.

My monitor just stopped working on my 5680. Ran fine since I bought it in November 2018. Worked fine this morning and all of a sudden after putting it to sleep 10 minutes later no signal. Any thoughts?

Did you try rebooting?
Can you test this monitor on a different PC or a different monitor on this PC?
Do you have an add-in video card (AMD or NVidia) or do you only have onboard Intel HD Graphics?

That's not very informative. Exactly what do you mean? Do you get an error message or...?
How did you get it to work again before it stopped working again?
Have you tested this monitor on a different PC or a different monitor on this PC? What video port on PC and on monitor are you using.
With the vague info you've posted, it's impossible to say if this is a hardware or software issue. So the more you tell us...

Do you have an Inspiron 5680 and exactly which video card do you have?
These are the common ports on current add-in video cards.
What ports does your second monitor support? If the 2nd monitor doesn't support one of the ports on the video card directly, you can get an adapter, for example DisplayPort(PC)>HDMI(monitor).
Adapters are typically one-directional, so make sure you get the right one. A DP(PC)>HDMI(monitor) adapter is not the same as a HDMI(PC)>DP(monitor).
VGA(PC) port will not work if connected to HDMI(monitor) with an adapter, but HDMI(PC)>VGA(monitor) will work...
