Inspiron 580, USB Recovery Key, Windows 7

My dad has a dell desktop inspiron 580 and the operating system is corrupt, so I contacted dell and told them the issue they said a Dell Direct USB Recovery Key Win7 would fix the issue, The 1st stick arrived followed the instructions that came with it, did not work and error popped up stating ( COULD NOT LOAD 1ST SCRIPIT MODULE 129, so contacted dell they determined it was a bad usb key, so they sent another one and before trying this one I found the article that dell provides STEP BY STEP process, so we followed it to THE T, come to find out per the video and the steps given on dell's website it does not give the option to select language or accept the END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT to go to install the new clean windows 7 operating system. anyone that has any ideas or insight would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!!

Have you tried to install Windows 7 via the clean install route? You can download the installation media from Microsoft to a DVD or a USB drive and clean install Windows 7. The following site will give you more information. All you have to do on the MS page is type in your windows key and then download the version based on your key.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows7

It will work on preinstalled factory versions as the following disclaimer states. In other words, you will have to go to the Dell support page for the 580 to download and install proper drivers.

Before using operating system copies from this site for install, re-install or recovery on devices with pre-installed operating systems, see your device manufacturer or reseller for the customized drivers and applications specific to your machine. Using operating systems copied from this site for install, re-install or recovery may void your support agreement with your manufacturer or reseller. Any drivers or programs that were installed by the device manufacturer or reseller may be removed during installation.

Keep in mind that you're going to lose everything that's on the hard drive, so I hope your personal files are all backed up on external media.

Look for a Microsoft sticker on outside of PC case that has your Windows Product key so you can activate the clean install using that download from Microsoft's site.

As long as machine has 4gb (or more) of RAM ...

I suggest you clean-install Windows-10 64bit to a blank drive. If you need a new drive, I suggest a 240gb-512gb SSD.

The Installer should accept that Windows-7 OEM Key as qualification, and Windows-10 will Activate as genuine.

Sure you read the Microsoft sticker correctly? It's very easy to confuse zero with letter O, number 1 with capital letter i, V with Y, etc.

Before trying to install Win 10, you should read some of the threads on this forum with advise for users who had problems installing and running Win 10 on the Inspiron 580, like this thread.

Hi there

I am not upgrading from windows7 to windows10. I am simply trying to restore the computer back to it's original state from dell. I ordered a DELL DIRECT USB KEY windows 7 home premium 64 bit from dell, 1st stick missing select language, so dell sent me another DELL DIRECT USB KEY windows 7 home premium 64 bit, same issue.

after turning off the PC and plugging the USB KEY and hitting F12 , I select the correct USB ( ONLY 1 IT HAS )

then I hit enter, it says windows is loading files , after this it is supposed to give me an option to select my language well this option is missing from both USB KEYS, dell will not provide any technical support on the keys only want to refund me or keep shipping me new ones.

Lost on what to do!

So if you're not offered the choice of languages, are you saying the installation stalls and doesn't go further or does it continue the installation?

Maybe the version on Dell's USB stick is limited to English so it doesn't offer you a language option..??

Download the Win 7 ISO file for free from Microsoft and create your own bootable USB stick and run the install from that one. And get a refund from Dell.

Hi,

So the installation goes for about 10 more minutes then says error could not load 1st script module, process aborted!

According to dell's website it should allow me to select my language but it does not do that!

I have gone to the ISO page and they do not have win7 home premium 64 bit for me to download there.

If you have the Microsoft Windows Product Key, you should be able to download the Win 7 ISO here:

WINDOWS 7 Home Premium is done.  EOL EOS.

Dell does not provide support or warranty extension for 10 years or even 5 years.  5 years is typical maximum system design life cycle.

Only Windows 7 PRO is supported and only until April of 2020.

This is also why HOME has no Downgrade Rights.

Client operating systems and updates       general availability       end of sales

Windows 8.1 October 18, 2013 September 1, 2015
Windows 8 October 26, 2012 October 31, 2014
Windows 7 Professional October 22, 2009 October 31, 2013
Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate October 22, 2009 October 31, 2013

Downgrade Rights are not available except for Windows 7 PRO and Ultimate. While Windows 8 Professional licensing allows for a downgrade to Windows 7, there is no assurance that Windows 7 drivers will be available either from Dell or the component manufacturer. Systems on this list were available with a Windows 8 Pro purchase option, Windows 7 drivers may not be available.

WINDOWS ISO downloads from Microsoft are for RETAIL KEYS only.

OEM Keys do not work.

The Dell USB KEY would not be issued by Dell for a 580 because its End of life End of support.

Windows 10 1803 burned DVD would install with the "I don't have a key" option then activate online with the "Change Product Key" option aka  SLUI 3.

Dell only provides USB Recovery keys for For Windows 8 or Windows 10

Dell is not allowed to issue Windows 7 media or Vista Media or XP media anymore.

1. Dell USB recovery sticks are encrypted.

2. They are one time use on one system.

3. They cannot be copied or cloned.

4. They are not universal there are specific part numbers for specific models.

5. They are not available for all dell models.

6. The Inspiron 580 is NOT one of the models that has a USB Recovery Stick.

7. Dell is not issuing media for Windows 7, VISTA, XP

media of any kind for any model anymore forevermore.

Windows 7 Reaches End of Life in about a year so you are best to clean install Windows 10 with your Windows 7 Home Premium Product Key. See here for details: https://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/windows-10/ If you want to clean install Windows 7 Home Premium you'll have to use the following workarounds: https://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/slipstream-win7/
