Inspiron 620s, SSD
I currently have a Dell Inspiron 620s (according to the Dell website, although the purchase invoice states Dell Inspiron 620ST) with a 1TB hard drive which is getting low on free space. Can anyone tell me if I can add an SSD for the operating system and a few programs whilst keeping the original HDD for storage. I am not sure if there is an available drive bay and/or sufficient space within the case. My understanding is that this model is a slimmed down version of the Inspiron 620.

As per the specs for your system you have 1 x 3.5" bay for an HDD. The only thing you could do is install a larger drive, preferably an SSD, and clone your old drive to it. And since your system is around 9 years old it may be a good idea to replace the HDD with an SSD anyway. That HDD is getting old and may be headed for failure in the not too distant future.

I put a Samsung 860 1TB EVO SSD into my mother-in-law's 620s. Used Samsung's migration tool to move the HDD to the SSD. Works great. I also put in an i7-2600K at the same time (an inexpensive i5-2500K provides almost the same performance boost) and the computer is particularly responsive now.
I used a Vantec 2.5 to 3.5 dual SSD mounting bracket.

Chipset and bios on 620's does not support AHCI.
So SSD's are not recommended.

And if you go with a $25 i5-2500K, you get 53% of the performance of a high dollar 9900K on your 2011 vintage computer. What a deal!. Plus one can upgrade to two 8GB RAM sticks for a nice 16GB RAM setup. I have even been able to fit a GTX 1050Ti (MSI Low Profile) with a Silverstone 300W TFX PSU to further extend the performance of the 620S!

When using SSDs, be sure and go to disk properties->Tools->Optimize and turn off optimization. That way, the SSDs work more reliably. On the Samsung Magician software, I always use 10% overprovisioning. That way if it detects a problem, it can reliably be addressed.

I upgraded my hard drive on my Inspiron 620 to SSD (Samsung EVO) and boot time went from 6 minutes to 1 minute. General usage is 2-3x faster. Don't believe those saying the upgrade doesn't help!
