Inspiron G5 5000, minimum GPU requirements?
I purchased new Dell Inspiron G5 5000 desktop with GPU removed. Apparently there are bunches of G5 desktops being purchased to get the high end GPU's and then resold with missing GPU's.
My question is: What is the minimum GPU I can buy for under $200 (preferably under $100) and install to get my Dell Inspiron G5 5000 up and running, given the shortage of (and very high cost of) GTX and RTX series GPU's right now? I am not a gamer. I bought the Inspiron G5 5000 with missing GPU because of great low price and because of its tower and PSU configuration.

So they sold you a PC with no GPU, even though this model doesn't support onboard Intel UHD Graphics? Did they say it had no video output ports in their ad? I'd send it back for a full refund and/or file a complaint against the seller.
What PSU do you have, 360W or 500W? That will limit what GPU you can use. And your price range may not get you a good card.
Dell has a list of GPUs they've validated for this model in the specs. (You don't have to purchase it from Dell.) And you can look at UserBenchmark to see what other GPUs are being used in this PC model. Just keep in mind the size of your PSU and the minimum PSU size required for the card you choose.
You will have to disable Secure Boot in BIOS setup to allow the PC to boot into Windows using a non-Dell GPU.

Honestly, if you don't care much about gaming or other GPU-intensive applications, something like a GTX 1030 should do the job. ($135 on newegg.com, cheaper on Craigslist/ebay). I don't see any reason why that would not work in your G5.

what monitor resolution do you have or want? Are you planning to stream 4k video?
video card still needs to meet certain criterion for non gaming applications in 2021.

I'm in the same boat. I bought a new GTX 1050 Ti to put in and it won't post. 3-2 flashing amber light. I turned off secure boot in the BIOS and it still does it. Is this model too old for my G5?

No, it is not too old for g5 5000. User benchmark shows they are compatible.
something else is preventing post.

It's posts and boots with a GT 710 in it. Just not the 1050. Secure boot is off. Any other ideas?

Sorry, thought I had mentioned it. It does work in other computers. I actually have two 1050 Ti and they both won't post.

FWIW, blink code 3,2 = PCI or Video card/chip failure. So the motherboard isn't seeing the card correctly.
Did you try clearing BIOS?

There are strange reports of gpu not post in Dell pc and how users fixed the issue. I can not verify them. Your g5 5000 uses discrete gpu only. Try turn secure boot ON instead of OFF using gt710, then download GTX 1050 Ti driver from nvidia and install it. Then try 1050 Ti again. I know such fixes do not make sense, but give them a try.
Finally just double check video cables securely connected both ends (pc and monitor). And if 1050 Ti has multiple ports, test each port. If a certain 1050 Ti port and video cable combination work in another pc, use exactly the same port and cable to test G5.
