Inspiron One 2205, WiFi capabilities

I recently switched from DSL internet to fiber-optic internet, and my Dell desktop has slower download speeds than my MacBook laptop (under DSL they had the same speeds). Someone suggested to me online that my Dell computer may not be compatible with my new Wifi router. Is it compatible with the 802.11 bands? I haven't been able to find out anything about that online, so any help would be appreciated. TIA.

I suggest you exactly identify your:

- Router (or Residential Gateway)
- WiFi card make/model

Compare what protocols they have in common... 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac, etc.

As for Access-Points, don't assume 5ghz is always better than 2.4ghz. 5ghz is theoretically faster, but 2.4ghz has better range. Actual "held" connection speed is variable, and stronger signals connect at faster speeds.

Check your Inspiron One 2205 Device Manager under Network adapters.

You either have the DW1501 WiFi mini-card =
802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz single band)

Or the DW1520 WiFi mini-card =
802.11a/b/g/n (2.4GHz/5GHz dual band)
