Using Dell Recovery to move OS and Data to a larger SSD card
I just bought a larger SSD card and would like to move my current OS, Data, and programs to the new card. First, I have been told that it will not back up the programs, only the data. How does it capture data that is stored in the program directory if it does not copy the programs.
If this is true, what data files is it copying? Only the user profile?
The more important question is when I restore the 256 GB card to a 1TB card will it recognize that the card is a larger card, both for installing the info on the new card and backing up? I gather it will not install and only access 256 Gb of the 1TB card. I would not like to lose 750 GB. (Yes, I understand you never have the full memory access due to system files.) I am hoping that the Dell installed recovery section would not be restricted to only 256 GB.
If there is a problem with this, can Dell supply me a new updated preformated 1TB card with a new recovery system?

What you want is not supported by DELL or Microsoft.

This has been the case since 1995 and Windows NT 4.0
You backup your data and reinstall OS and Apps.
If you use 3rd party software Like Macrium or Ghost etc you have to get support from them as neither DELL nor Microsoft will support you.

You can use Macrium Reflect (free) to clone the current SSD and then move the image over to the new SSD.
Macrium has the capability to resize partitions, so you should be able to make use of the extra space on the new SSD.
And there are lots of other threads on the net about doing exactly what you want, if you need more help, so google for them...
