17" pricing is CRAZY

There's more than just the screen size at play.  There is currently no budget (Inspiron) 17" system -- the 17" requires jumping to an Alienware or XPS model -- which differ from the budget-build Inspirons in more ways than just the screen size.

 I get the fact there are design differences but why is no basic 17" Inspiron, i5, 8 Gb, 512 Gb, 1920x1200 available for $650? Not too  much to ask.  The 16" with the same specs otherwise is $600.

They have come and gone over the years, but the sense I have had is that they do not sell well enough to justify the cost of production -- remember, the profit margin on sub-$1,000 systems is very slim.

The profit margin on a computer that is not bought is ZERO, lol!  I will NEVER pay those prices so they make NOTHING off me!  I guess they made their choice so I'll make mine and buy elsewhere.  THEIR loss, not mine.  Lenovo or HP or ASUS or ???  here I come!!!  Good-bye Dell.

@jalbertini good luck in finding a 17"" that fits within your budget and is not a cat in a bag where you can drink a can of coffee before the device is even booted.

I have an HP and it is fine but getting up in age so looking at upgrading.  My wife's Lenovo is fine but 15.6", their 17" is reasonably priced, unlike Dell's!!!  There ARE options at half the price to spending $1200.
