7370 battery drain even when off

I have an inspiron 7370 and the battery drains when it is off. The machine looks off -- screen is blank, keyboard lights are off, power button light is off but when I took it out of my backpack the machine was hot and the fan was on. I had to put it off by holding down the power button key. When I restarted battery was down to 6%.

The machine also does not wake up from sleep mode. I have to do a hard shut down by pressing the power button. After it goes off then I restart by pressing the power button.

Bios and chip set have been updated. Running Windows 10.

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

I have the same issue. At first the only problem was that it was impossible to use screen turning off, sleep or hibernation. The computer would never wake up, and I have to hard switch off and restart, so I had to disable all of them.

I've realised that the problem is worse than this though. I also have battery drain when the computer is switched off. I thought it was strange that every now and again I'd switch on the computer to a critical battery low message. But it didn't happen all the time, presumably as the battery would last between switch off and the next boot up, when the battery was in good condition.

But, after a mere 1 1/2 years, my battery condition is down to fair, and I can get only an hour's use out of a 100% change - on better battery setting and 50% screen. Now that battery life is so bad its easy to see that the battery is draining every time its switched off. 100% battery on switch off at night, by morning: 0%. I've obviously been draining and charging my battery far more than I should have done, and the battery is short already.

But I cant really buy a new one because (a) dell apparently don't currently stock these batteries and (b) even if they did, it would only last 1 1/2 too, as there is clearly a bigger problem.

I've tried a few suggestions online, but nothing has worked so far. I raised this issue with dell while in warranty - but now that I am out of warranty the technical team wont deal with me. They say its a likely motherboard issue, which was obviously the case from purchase, but they wont say more due to the warrant being expired, even though I have an email confirming I raised the issue in warranty.

I suspect this will be the last dell I ever buy, after 20 years of buying dells.
