Airpods case/phone will not charge through USB ports on laptop

Before, I was able to charge my airpods case through the usb ports on my laptop; however, recently the ports on my laptop have not been able to charge my case. The charge light comes on for my airpods but the battery level wont actually go up. The same type of thing happens with my phone as well.
