Can Dell Update Replace Wrong Windows Drivers With Dell Drivers?
I am using a Dell Inspiron 5567 laptop. I made the mistake of using Driver Booster to update 24 Drivers. Later I was informed that to avoid any problems its better to use Dell Drivers which are unique to the motherboard.
Then I ran Dell update and I was informed to install some Intel drivers and update the bios which I did. I ran Dell update again and it informed me everything is up to date. I am not presently experiencing any issues with the laptop. Time will tell.
My question is, if Driver Booster (or Windows) installs any drivers that are not approved by Dell, can Dell update recognise them and replace them?
It would be very time consuming to go through a factory reset install and start all over again. The only other option would be to open device manager and roll back the 24 drivers that driver booster installed one by one, then run Dell update again.
Shall I leave things as they are or try and uninstall the 24 drivers?
Your advice would be appreciated.
Kind regards
Chris

I am not a big fan of programs that search for and install "current drivers". Having said that the drivers that were installed will not harm the system even if they came from Intel for example rather than Dell. Dell drivers are optimized for Dell hardware. But in many cases drivers from the source suppliers of hardware such as Intel are newer. Leave the 24 drivers that you stated were installed. If Dell has newer drivers they will be installed later. Trying to uninstall drivers or reset the system is a hassle and if the system is working properly then leave well enough alone.

Thank you for your reply. I will leave things alone as you suggest. If there any issues in the future then I could replace a specific driver with the Dell version. It's just that I was informed that some Dell Laptop hardware is unique to Dell and they tailor make the driver to suit the hardware for best performance.
I have no idea if Dell update can detect if the "latest" generic hardware driver is different from the Dell approved driver and replace it. That would be interesting to find out.
Kind regards

If everything is working you are lucky. Many times driver programs will install wrong or even older drivers.
One specific driver we have seen that's needed is the Dell sound driver. Most Dell's come with Waves MaxxAudio Pro (needed for jack detection) and it will only work, or work properly with the Dell sound driver.
I rarely disagree with one of our Rockstar's but if it were mine I'd be reverting the drivers (do a reboot) and then run Dell Support Assist and install any needed from that.

Thank you for your reply Fireberd. I appreciate your insight and experience. As you say, the safer option would be to uninstall and reoinstall. There may be some issues, its hard to say. So far I did not see any issues. The sound and Jack detection appears to work.
I still wonder though, if Dell update can see a driver that is not Dell approved, will it replace it? That would save a lot of manual uninstalling.
Kind regards
Chris
PS these are the drivers Driver Booster installed. The pro version can undo the changes. Sadly the free version which I used can't. Afterwards Dell update installed some intel drivers. I'm not sure which ones.
