Inspiron 3583, BIOS fails due to password
Inspiron 3583
I got a BIOS update for my Inspiron 3583 via Dell Update. However, when I go to install it, it fails stating that the BIOS requires a password, and must be removed in order to update. There are no passwords of any kind enabled in the BIOS, and previous BIOS updates installed just fine in the past. Hoping this is just a bug in the latest version of Dell Update. Any ideas?

This, "BIOS fails due to password", is under investigation.
Installing a PC BIOS update from a USB thumb drive is the safest process.
How to flash the BIOS on a Dell Desktop or Notebook with a USB thumb drive
I do not install a PC BIOS update "through" any software (Dell Update Application, SupportAssist, Windows Updates, etc.). IF I install a BIOS update, it is via the above F12--> OTHER OPTIONS --> BIOS Flash Update.

I've had that happen 2X as well. Time to contact support.

The USB flash drive method did work, although my update interface was different compared to the one in the article, and it required selecting the USB flash drive partition from the drop down menu. (FSx). Anyway, it definitely sounds like a bug in the Dell Update program, which was recently updated to v4.7.0 not too long ago.
