Cannot copy files to disk in DVD RW drive

I am trying to copy or move a file to a CD-RW and cannot.  I click on the file and drag it to the D drive but the file is not moved, there is the circle with the line through it.  I thought maybe there was something wrong with the CD-RW so I put in a new one.  The notification appears asking what I want to do with this CD-RW, I click on burn files with File Explorer, but then nothing happens.  I think a window is supposed to appear to format the CD-RW.  In File Explorer, I click on the D:\ drive and this window appears stating, "Windows can't read the disk in drive D:\."

I searched online "Cannot read/write to CD-RW" and on the Microsoft Support site, it says this occurs because the IMAPI CD-Burning COM service is set to Disabled.  I searched for this service but could not find it.

I have not tried to copy a file to a CD-RW since the latest Windows OS update.  I do not know if this has anything to do with this.

Please help.

Is there some reason you won't use a more reliable method of copying files to a USB flash drive?

Packet writing to a CD-RW is highly unreliable. I stopped doing it many years ago.

Hi nyc10036,

I do have USB flash drives but I have information that is saved on CD disks, like tax information, that I would like to keep altogether.  I can access files on the disks.  The DVD RW drive plays DVD disks.    Incidentally, since I posted, I was able to copy of file to the CD disk, but only to a zipped folder.

I've had the laptop barely over a year; everything should work.
