You can definitely upgrade to 32 GB, possibly 64 GB.

Intel says that the processors in that model support up to 128 GB RAM. Crucial says you can use up to 64 GB. Some other suppliers say 32 GB, but that may be because they don't have 32 GB sticks. So, 32 GB will work, 64 GB might work.

Dell's maximum memory specification is published at the time of system design, based on what they tested. It's not a limitation, so don't take it as gospel. Technology evolves, and often larger RAM sticks and larger drives become available after Dell publishes the specs, and Dell does not generally go back to revise the maximum specs. So, Dell's specs should not be interpreted as limitations or maximums.

I recently upgraded a friend's Inspiron to 8 GB RAM, even though Dell says that 4 GB is maximum. In fact, I temporarily ran 16 GB in that laptop just to test it out and it ran well, though both Dell and Crucial say that is not possible.

Crucial lists compatible RAM, and if it doesn't work you can return it for a refund. If you buy elsewhere, look for a similar guarantee.

Follow the disassembly and reassembly steps in Dell's Service Manual.

Look on YouTube for videos showing disassembly of your model. But, be cautious with them, as some use steps or methods that are not appropriate. Use the videos to add to your understanding of what to do, but follow the steps in Dell's manual.

Whenever touching components or working inside a computer, wear a grounded wrist strap, also called anti-static wrist strap, ESD wrist strap, or ground bracelet. I know many people do such work without this, but it's a cheap and sensible precaution. Rest the laptop on an anti-static mat or at least a reasonable alternative such as corrugated cardboard.
