Dell 3147 ACPI BIOS ERROR in Windows 10 (2004) update...

Hello,

I have an issue with the new Windows 10 OS (2004) May 2020 update.  I got a BSOD saying “ACPI BIOS ERROR”.  I also tried safe mode and it still has that error.  Is there a way to fix this?  Will there be a BIOS update for this machine?  If someone can fix this, I would greatly appreciate this.

There are many issues with the 2004 update, based on reports on the tenforums.  Best to revert to 1909 and wait a while before upgrading.  Not just a Dell issue, all brands.  I even have it with my desktop, which is a custom build.

You had the same error last year.  I assume this time it's not the TXE driver as you would have already checked that.

I have the exact same issue. I upgraded to V12 of the BIOS update because it was “urgent”, and now I’m getting the ACPI BIOS ERROR BSOD. Tried wiping the drive and reinstalling Windows too. To version 2004, same issue. Did you ever get it to work? @wmchin2003

@wmchin2003 @JohnSpk @fireberd

Found a solution:

Got it to work on Win10 2004 and BIOS version A12.

I had to download all BIOS versions A05-A12 from Dell (Google: Inspiron 3147 BIOS A##) and run them one by one. BIOS version A05 will let you go in Windows 10 2004. Then install all the chipset drivers from the Dell support website; the TXE driver on the site is "old"; however, install that one. TXE won't start if it has the Win10-automatically-installed driver. Then, upgrade the BIOS version one by one until you reach the latest (A12).

Hope it helps!

In the process of imaging computers.

Installing Windows 10 Pro 2004 would install and Windows updates would run and crash with the ACPI error.

I installed:

Windows 10 Pro 2004.

Intel Execution Engine - TXE_Win_64_2.0.5.3117.zip

Dell video driver - 3147_Video_Driver_4JY9M_WN32_10.18.10.4242_A00.EXE

Once this was done I was able to run Windows Updates without issue.

ST MicroElectronics Free Fall Sensor was missing - 3147_System-Utilities_Driver_V18VJ_WN32_4.11.0067_A00.EXE

So far no crashing.

@bgiacaman

Thanks for the info.  I downgraded to a05 and installed 2004 with no crashes.  Installed all the chipset drivers except for "virtual buttons" or something like that.  It wouldn't load at all.  Then upgraded one by one to a10 and will stop there for now and see how things go.

@JonDTC

I tried installing the TXE driver you listed (all others were ok) but it crashed immediately with the acpi bios error every time.

I then tried bgiacaman's method and got 2004 to install.  Thank you for your efforts in trying to help.

Thanks again to both of you.

John

Thanks to all of you who have gone before me and led me in the right direction, after days of being unsuccessful.  I am now running on Windows 10 (2004), yea!  I am not quite as successful as some.  I did update (sometimes downgrade) my drivers directly from the Dell website, including the TXE driver.  I did downgrade to BIOS A05 and was able to get Windows 2004 running.  I tested a number of BIOS versions, and settled on A07.  A10 and A12 do not work for me, I don't know why, but for now I am happily trucking with A07.  The only upgrades I have done to my Dell 3147 is to put in a Samsung SSD and additional memory.

If anyone has further ideas, I hope you will continue to share.

Thanks again.

My 3147 is still stuck on Version 1803, but that's not entirely bad. Windows Update has given up on installing the newer version, but it's still installing essential, security updates. I'm happy, Windows Update is happy, I'm going to leave it for a while.

Hello kind sir. I have the same problem, I download the urgent bios A12 update from dell SupportAssist and I am getting a BSOD with acpi error since. Unfortunately after getting fed up with this I installed mx Linux and am using it since, I still have the acpi errors on every start up but it still boots.

if you can tell be the exact steps I should follow to install the correct bios on my laptop that works correctly without having to boot into windows and only having Linux , I would be forever be grateful for your kindness. Thank you.
