Dell G3 17 questions about memory
- Hi. For me it's not completely understandable some details about memory:
- 1) why officialy can I install only 512gb of m2 nvme ssd? What will be if I install 1tb for example or maybe even 2tb? What's the restriction - 512gb?
- 2) 2666Mhz - is it the max speed for RAM or does it just show the speed of installed slot? What's the max speed for RAM that I can install in this laptop?

1. 512GB is the largest SSD that Dell has tested in the 3779 but not the largest compatible SSD. This page at Crucial indicates up to a 2TB M.2 SSD is guaranteed compatible.
2. 2666 is the max speed per the specs. If you install faster RAM it will run at 2666.

Yeah, but please pay attention that Crucial promises quite a lot: they offer RAM with speed 3200Mhz for this laptop (well, maybe it will work but all in all at 2666), ssd nvme pcie Gen4 (not Gen3) however this laptop isn't compatible with nvme pcie4.0 as I understand, only with nvme pcie3.0.
I even remember some complaints that Crucial offers ssd nvme Gen4 as upgrade however laptop doesn't take it as compatible only with Gen3 (don't remember exactly if this related to this laptop or not).
So where is the truth?
I don't mind that sometimes Crucial is right: on another laptop (Asus) manufacturer declared that 16Gb RAM is max and Crucial said that max is 32Gb. And in this case Crucial was correct - laptop can work with 24-32Gb of RAM.
But here I have some doubts
