Dell G5 power limit

Question

I have a dell g5 5587 with i7-8750h and GTX1060 Max-Q

The problem im having is power limit throttle after 40-60 minutes of gaming the cpu drops to 0.8ghz and with it the gpu. I tried everything Intel XTU throttle stop afterburner. I undervolted to every posible level, I tried speed shift on diferent levels i turned off turbo boost and other settings ant nothing works even with thermals at 70-80*c it power limit throttles.

The question im asking is there any way of disabeling the power limit or rasing it?

In Intel xtu there is a setting called Turbo Boost Power Max, turn that all the way up. It most likely around 45w. What happens is when the computer gets near using 45w for the cpu it backs the wattage down so it doesn't go over 45w. My dell g5 did the same thing till I've done that. I'm also undervolted and I've cut the grill out by my coolers and every other bar on the underside by the fan, allowing for it to get and exhaust more air. I had a problem with thermal throttling. Hitting 92c no problem. Now it runs around 75 to 80c. No more air restrictions

I have the exact same g5 and I have the exact same issue as you do. I’ve had mine for about a year and a half, and I called dell about a year ago about my problem, and they did nothing about it. Now I’m stuck with this pile of garbage for the rest of my days until I can afford different laptop. I’m so incredibly disappointed and frustrated in my g5, as it is advertised as a gaming computer, but can’t do anything but browse the internet without running at incredibly low clock speeds. Hopefully I can either send it back for repairs or to get some sort of refund for this thing.

I don't know if you're still having issues, but this seemed to have worked out for me:

windows key -> type "services" hit enter -> disable/force stop "Intel Dynamic Tuning Service". Also Download Intel XTU and Throttlestop. Use XTU to set the power limits to "unlimited" and the timer to 128 sec. Use throttlestop to set Speed Shift EPP to 0.

Actually no, that didn't work, but now I think I fixed it.

I formatted the laptop, deleted all the partitions that came from the factory and did a clean Windows install. I didn't let Windows install any drivers and did it manually myself.

Also didn't install the Dell power management stuff, Alienware Command Center, and also didn't install Intel Dynamic Tuning nor Management Engine Drivers. Then I set the Thermal Management option in BIOS to Ultra Performance or something like that.

Now I'm able to set a PL1 of 80W with XTU and it sticks. I can run all 6 cores @ 4.2GHz forever now. It's lame that 10th gens are locked down for undervolting though. To control the fans I'm using "Dell fan command" to disable Dell's Embedded Controller and the I use SpeedFan. I can only set them to 0 50 or 100% but hey.

I also have a bunch of stuff not installed in device manage. The computer is running fine though.

hey, i just picked up one of these but im afraid to try any of these changes because of warranty breaches blah blah blah. But how is the fan noise? like do you keep is at 50%? or just run it higher when your temp goes up? My laptop is always running hot but underperforming

man after trying a lot of stuff, I figured that its the charger voltage over time is used and not sending the required voltages so just change the charger with a new one and try to default every settings.
