Dell Inspiron 7577 w/ External Monitor

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7577 laptop with an Intel i7 7700HQ, 16 GB ram, Geforce GTX 1060 max-q, 128 GB SSE, and 1 TB Hard Drive. I've tried connecting this laptop to an external monitor (LG 24EN33TW) but I ran into a few problems. There would be blinking red dots all over the screen and the screen would sometimes flicker black, sometimes even staying black. I know the problem isn't the cable or monitor because when I connect the same monitor with the same cable to my desktop, it works fine. Does anyone know why this is happening? I use an hdmi cable with a hdmi to dvi-d adapter if that's important. Thanks

My external HDMI monitor stopped working two days ago after recent 1.4.2 BIOS update.

So you’ve ruled out the monitor and cable as culprits by testing with another system, but did you use the adapter with that other system? If not, that variable still seems in play. Also make sure your drivers are updated of course.

i have tried everything and the port doesn't seem to respond at all. The monitor, cable and even the port are just fine. Can this be a bios problem?

The use of an HDMI to DVI adapter/cable might be the issue.  There are multiple threads with multiple users reporting that the XPS 15 9570 doesn't work with those adapters/cables, for example.  Dell to my knowledge has not provided any insight as to why that system doesn't work with DVI displays (never mind committing to delivering a fix), and I was surprised to see this issue at all since I've never had a problem switching between HDMI and DVI in either direction on multiple systems and displays.  But somehow that issue exists on that system, so I wonder if it might also exist on this system.
