Do Inspiron 5584 Laptops Support Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)?
Does anyone know if my Inspiron 15 5584 / Win 10 v1909 laptop in purchased August 2019 is supposed to support Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)?
According to Dell employee dell-robert p's Feb 2019 post in Wakey Wakey! - Inspiron 7373 Takes Ages to Wake From Sleep "...In recent versions of Windows 10, the sleep mode has been replaced with modern standby, and the system will exhibit many of the issues you've described. Dell is supporting modern standby and has taken the ability to manipulate the S3 sleep mode from the BIOS..." However, when I run the powercfg /a command from an elevated command prompt it reports my chipset does not support Modern Standby and only supports the old S3 Standby power model.
When I run powercfg /energy the diagnostic report it generates shows two errors on my system. One is of no concern (I've deliberately disabled my Goodix Fingerprint Reader in Device Manager) but the second error states "PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a know incompatibility with the hardware in this computer." I'm not sure, however, if PCI Express ASPM is simply disabled by design when the Dell Power Management Service is running.
I've had multiple problems with Sleep / Hibernate on my system since it was purchased [see my thread Inspiron 15 5584 Wakes After 180 Min of Sleep (ACPI Wake Alarm) for one example] and I'm wondering now if there's a conflict between my Inspiron 5583/5584 BIOS v1.10.0 and/or the Dell Power Manager Service v3.6.0 and the hardware in my system, or if it's possible that I tweaked some setting in Win 10 that prevents Modern Standby.
Dell SupportAssist v3.5.0.448 says I'm fully patched, but I've also noticed that my Qualcomm QCA9377 802.11ac Wirless adapter (v12.0.0.916, rel. 08-Aug-2019) and Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (v10.31.828.2018, rel. 28-Aug-2018) haven't had a driver update recently.
