G3 3579 Compatible ssd m.2

Hi, I've recently purchased the G3 3579 with 1 Tb hdd and because it is very slow I'd like to add a compatible ssd m.2 disk. I'm little confused with the selection of the ssd because first of all in the manual it says that the max capacity is 512gb and the slot is PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4, M.2 22 x 80mm. So I'd like to know if I can add something bigger than 512 gb with the above specs and secondly I've read that some users had issues booting from the m.2 ssd with bsod in Windows 10. Is this slot compatible with PCIe and sata iii or only with PCIe? Can I add this ssd on my own or I will loose the warranty? Finally can someone tell me if the INTEL 660p 512gb PCIe is compatible and able to boot my windows 10 (according to the specs it is but I want to be sure). Also sorry for the board selection but there is no option for G3 boards I'm not sure if it's alienware section. Thanks in advance

You can add up to a 1 TB SSD, and that is NVME/PCIe. And you absolutely can add an M.2 SSD without affecting your warranty. That Intel SSD will work but there are other M.2 NVME drives that have better performance such as the Samsung 960, 970, and WD Black.

And posting in this forum for your G3 is fine as there is not a dedicated G forum.

Still not 100 percent sorry.
Can I add 1TB ssd AND m2?
What's the max size and speed M2 drive I can add?
Is there a list of compatible drives?

Thanks

Hi Grops,

In view of your question in the thread and answer received for compatibility of Intel 660p with G3 3579, I want to know did the Intel 660P SSD work on your above laptop as boot drive? Is it upto 512 GB or more?

In my case motherboard is 05K0D2 and chipset is Intel HM370 with manual saying M.2 2280 SSD PCIe 3x4 NVMe up to 32 Gbps Up to 512 GB slot.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Yogesh

this is kind of a late response but I had the same issue with my G3 17 3779. I got the 1TB hdd model but it was very slow. i did not get a model with an ssd included. this computer is nice except the slow hdd takes away from the real performance of the laptop. I never used an ssd before because they are so expensive. but after some research, you don't want a SATA ssd because they are not as fast as an m2 PCIe/NVMe ssd. and it might be hard to find a SATA ssd that is compatible with that computer. so stick with m2.

anyway, i found an inexpensive PCIe ssd on amazon called Sabrent Rocket. the 1TB model is $109 and works great on my g3. i did not remove the original hdd, i just unplugged it and then i installed the new m.2 ssd. the process is pretty simple and straightforward but you should look up dell's user guide of your laptop model before opening it.

i did not clone my hard drive, so i used the dell os backup tool to create a bootable usb drive to do a clean install of windows on the new m.2 ssd. it was the best decision i have made. my G3 had a spare screw specifically for the m.2 ssd already inside but no heatsink/cover included because i didn't purchase my laptop with ssd included. but the heatsink is not necessary.

i will try to upload a screenshot of my crystaldisk speed test.

Hello guys, how are you?

Can you help me?

I will buy a SSD M.2 NVMe to my DELL G3 3579-A10P, but i dont know CORSAIR  Force MP510 works fine.

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Storage/M-2-SSDs/Force-Series-MP510/p/CSSD-F240GBMP510

Someone know?

An alternative would be SSD WD BLUE SN500, 250GB, WDS250G1B0C. Works fine?

Thanks4all!

Hey, there. I'm also using Dell G3 3579 and it has PCIe 3x4 SSD slot with a capacity of 512GB. I'm planning to buy a 1TB SSD PCIe 4. Will it work if I put that in this slot?. Can you please confirm, if it worked for you?.

Thanks
