G3 3590 hinge broken
So it looks like I joined the legion of owners of the G series for a broken hinge. At first my lid wasn't sitting properly, and then yesterday morning when closing it, I heard cracking, and 3 screws fell out the right-side hinge.
Since I'm a desktop IT tech by trade, and disassemble laptops for the company on a almost daily basis to swap/replace parts, I removed the display and found the screws are from where the hinge meets the (depending on what color you got) white or black top lid on the inside.
It seems by putting pressure on either the left or right side constantly to open and close the laptop it stresses the mounts of those screws and they eventually fail. Hopefully by exclusively using the center of the lid you can avoid that...but I wouldn't count on it and won't be purchasing a laptop with this hinge design ever again (lesson learned!).
Contacted Dell Support and they told me it was physical damage and "out of plan" for standard warranty. Yay. Thankfully I have a spare monitor with HDMI and a USB WiFi adapter (since the internal one won't work without the antenna wires being attached, nor will bluetooth). So for now I have an AIO but the internals live in the "keyboard" instead of the display.
Right side (bad)
Left side (good)
