G7 7590 Undervolting
Good day. After installing new bios update, i can't undervolting my laptop anymore (intel xtu/throttle stop) due to new intel microcode (plunder volt vulnerability). Can i revert this change (bios downgrade doesn't seems to help - tried to 1.9.0 v)?
Or will be this fixed in next updates?

I think that if you use a utility to show the power draw of the CPU, you will find that it is still 45 even though you set it higher. I tried setting both the long and short term power targets to values above 45, but it would not go any higher. I was able to get the long limit to 45, but not over.

Hopefully you've gotten this taken care of by now, but if not... you need to turn off BIOS capsule updates in in the "BIOS" (actually UEFI) settings too. Otherwise, Windows will detect the old firmware version and replace it immediately. Windows is not in the habit of asking the user for permission before making whatever changes it wants anymore (which is why I no longer use Windows).

I am not sure why that would be happening, but I can confirm that undervolting is working fine on my G3 (i7-8750h) with the latest 1.12 firmware, which did block undervolting until I did the factory reset (not loading the defaults... that did not work).
I tried running Folding At Home with 6 threads (custom setting), all six cores maxed out to 100% utilization, and it clocked up to 3.5-3.6 GHz and held it, and temps never got out of the low 70s C on any of the cores. I ran it for an hour and change (until the folding task was complete) and it stayed at ~3.5 or more and low 70s the whole time. There's no way it would have done that without undervolting (not to mention getting rid of the long power limit so it could stay at 45w).
I have hyperthreading off at the moment.

I noticed the same in my G3. I just reverted to 1.11 and indeed, it will go back to 4.1 GHz.
Even though I have "allow BIOS downgrades" checked, my system also would not allow the downgrade normally, instead giving me the "unsupported downgrade" message. Dell, if you are going to give me a checkbox for allowing downgrades, it should allow downgrades. I only performed the upgrade because I knew the option was there, and you made no mention of the irreversible nature of the upgrade in the notes for the release.
Still, if you search for a thread on Reddit (I don't know if linking is allowed here) called "I can Downgrade Dell BIOS to older version by making new Dell BIOS update file," by vqtrong, you can see how it can be done anyway. I did it as described, and it worked exactly as he showed in the Youtube video linked, including the bit where it says it failed at the end, but it really didn't.
This should not be necessary, though. We should be able to downgrade when the option for it is selected.

Dell is not responsible for the disabling of under-volting. Intel is.

Did exactly the same on G7 7588 and it doesn't work! Still stuck with the latest 1.14 which doesn't allow undervolt.

I confirm in my G7 7588,model with i5 8300H and GTX 1050 Ti,currently at 1.14,factory rest in BIOS do enable undervolt again.

I have a Dell G7 7790 and downloading BIOS 1.11 version of the website, installing and restoring all the BIOS Factory settings to default, reactivated the Undervolt.

You don't have to downgrade your BIOS, you can also do it on the latest BIOS. Just go to BIOS setting (at the startup by pressing f2). Click on restore settings and then click on factory settings. Doing that you'll be able to undervolt.

Hello all, must be quite some time since a last reply.. I found myself here after noticing that ThrottleStop grayed out some settings, went on a search for a resolution and landed here. I initially planned to downgrade the bios as discussed for a fix, but after noticing the real fix was "Restore Default Settings" I tried that route while at the latest bios - 1.21.0
- I can confirm no matter what version the BIOS is at, "Restore Default Settings" within the Bios Menu will fix that issue. Thanks!!!!

@PolarBear_JR this worked like a charm with my dell xps 7590!
somehow this month a w11 or something made the undervolt option grey out.
i rolled down to 1.5 but still it was greyed out. but once i applied your steps it all seems to work. Thank you
