INSPIRON N7110 upgrade
Hello, i want to upgrade my laptop, and i have some questions.
1. I have Intel Core i3-2350 M (2.30Ghz, 3M cache) processor. Is it possible to upgrade it to Intel Core i7, or its better to get i5? Are there any possibilities to know which processors are compatible with my laptop?
2. I have 1x4096 DDR3 and i'm not sure what size of memory my laptop supports. Also, is it necessary to add exactly the same memory, as i already have?
3. Can i replace optical drive for SSD?

1. The i7-2630QM shipped in this model and should work (so will others in the second-generation i7 line, but nothing newer).
2. 8G as 2X4 modules.
3. You'd be better off replacing the hard drive with the SSD, moving the OS to it and then moving the hard drive to the optical drive bay (assuming you can find a third party adapter to work).

Yes! It recognizes 8Gb ram modules.
I did something similar in my N7110.
It came with i5-2410m. I removed and installed an i7-2670qm. Worked like a charm! Upgraded by 30-40% in chip performance.
With a good thermal paste, it is running with low usage at 50 Celcius (cooler at 2700rpm), and at high usage, it goes up to 85 Celcius (at 4500rpm). (limit is 100 C).
Info: I silenced the A/C adapter warning at bios because I am still using the original 90W adapter. Bios recommend a 130W one (because i7 spends 45w, and i5, 35w). But if you use normally, it will be good. Be careful to not warm so much the power adapter (hot days, no airflow...).
Another thing: I had to use ThrottleStop (disabling the "BD PROCHOT" flag) program to let processor frequency works normally, at 2.2Ghz up to 3Ghz boost (maybe because I was using a 90W power source that Dell had told to the processor to work at low frequency).
I also installed two 8Gb Ram Memory, letting it operates with 16Gb at dual channel. It worked with the original i5-2410m processor and it is greatlly working with my new i7-2670qm.

yes, you can. But you will need an adapter to Sata, like this:
