Inspiron 13 7348 - Random Beeps, Black Screen

I have a lightly used Inspiron 13 7348. Refuses to start up, screen completely dead!

On startup, it will do a beep, then beeeeeep, then beep. So, 3 beeps. After about 30 sec, it will do a single beep and will repeat itself every 30 sec or so. Every once in a while it will do 2 beeps.

The how to read the beep guide on Dell's website is worthless. Beep sequence is inconsistent!

CMOS battery reads a proper 3V, so that's not the prob

Any advice?? Easy fix? Or... Time to put her down...?

Beep codes are shown here. 1 beep is a BIOS failure and could be a bad MB. I would install a brand new CMOS battery even if yours seemed to test as fine. 2 beeps is a RAM problem. Try reseating the RAM. And 3 beeps could also be a MB problem.

Performed all of the above.

Now, the beep sequence is slightly more consistent and now lacks the 30 sec lag time between beep sequences.

Now it's mostly 2 or 3 beep sequences. The beeps are not of the same duration. Usually the first beep is fast, but the second beep is slow/slurred/long.  Third beep is usually fast. Sometimes it will do a single beep or 4 beeps.

So.... bad ram stick?? What are my chances of a motherboard failure? This thing sits on my kitchen counter for 95% of it's life, where it stays, warm, dry, and untouched...

Can a bad ram stick really cause a dead screen and no post?
This thing is bricked out so badly that all it can do is semi randomly beep...

You can try this to get rid of the beeps: disconnect the laptop battery & power adapter and press & hold the power button for 30-40 seconds. Reconnect the battery and adapter to see of the beeps stop.

Here is another possibility you can try, it might not work for you depending on how new your machine is:

1. Open “Control Panel\System\Hardware Tab\Device Manager”.

2. At the top click “View\Show hidden devices” then go to “Non-Plug and Play Drivers” and double click “Beep”.

3. Now click the “Driver Tab” and finally change “Startup Type” to “Disabled”.

4. Restart.

If you are using Windows 10, you can right click on the start button itself and select device manager from the list.

The last thing I can think of would be to try disabling your sound devices. So unplug your speakers and mute your sounds.

If none of that helps, you probably need to contact Dell for support. They used to give you a way to disable those beeps, but not any longer. You pretty much HAVE to resolve whatever it is that is causing the problem.

Well, i can't even get to step 1 because the entire screen is dead and it won't POST....

I'll try opening it up and disconnecting the battery
