Inspiron 13 7373 - Display Details Change

Question

I have recently purchased an Inspiron 2-in-1 7373, and have noticed weird stuff with the screen.

Depending what is displayed on the screen, the screen/backlight seems to dim (based on if something is a dark theme and whatnot). Especially noticeable when scrolling or going from one program to another. (Dynamic Brightness Control?)

Secondly, when in tabs or displaying a menu, when I unplug from power it shows less detail like tab outlines, or "every other line" dark highlights in lists, etc. When I plug it in, the detail seems to return and displays as normal.

I'd assume these are tied to some type of power management or something, but I've dug around and haven't been able to locate any corresponding settings.

Any help would be appreciated!

None that I’m aware of. I actually was allowed y management at Best Buy to return it past the 30 day mark because of this issue. I created a ticket with Dell prior to that and they were zero help.

Enough was enough for me.

I’ve since bought a different computer.

I just a official confirmation from Dell saying it is working as designed. I am waiting for the days when companies start removing "space bar" from the keyboards and say "it's working as designed". This is exactly what apple did with the slowing down of the iPhone's for which they are getting criminally charged. I think this is something that should be done with Dell as well over this feature. They have already released the tool for the XPS line for both FHD and QHD screens, I think they are just testing customer's patience before they release for the inspiron line.

Well, it's extremely annoying. Like bad. My computer looks like **bleep** sometimes and the dynamic backlight thing is the most annoying part.

Maybe enough for me to exchange for a different manufacturer that doesn't have this issue. No way am I spending even more money to get an XPS line computer.

I am from India and dell doesn't even allow us to exchange the system even 1 day after purchase. The laptop have a hinge issue, they didn't even cared to fix that and said it's a minor issue and not a major one and later on they will say it's wear and tear. This is the most unethical company I have ever came across. Things were different when I first bought the XPS earlier 5-6 years ago.

What's even worse is that on phone they accept that it's a issue, but when mailing, they are very smart and say, no issues were found. So basically do not trust anything anyone from dell say on phone.

This is the kind of support you get for not even a month old system after first reporting the issue on day 1

Same issue. I am aware that this is related to a 'hidden' setting in the device display drivers. My medium business were considering procuring this laptop model but this issue, and the deafening silence from Dell in terms of providing a fix has meant we went with a competitors offering.

From what I've read there once was an option called "Display Power Saving Technology" in the control panel which was said to fix the issue. However, this option disappeared in new versions (or in Dell's version) of the driver. For me, the following links provided a solution:

@an-thon Can you please reconfirm that this actually helped you ? can you see no difference in the brightness when you are opening a command and a chrome window? Can you share what value did you use?

@Aniessh Sethh, I have to recall my post; I was tricked by running the notebook on AC. On AC the brightness remains stable when opening something with a dark background (cannot say if this has changed). However, on BAT the brightness (a/o contrast) still changes.

@an-thon Yeah, the issue is still there, till dell decides to fix it, it will not be fixed, and the only way I can see dell fixing this issue is enough people complain about it. They are still sticking with 'Personal Preference' all the while releasing fixes for the XPS line, it can't be both ways.
