Inspiron 14 7472 Keyboard Not Working After Battery Replacement

My Dell 14 7472  is out of warranty and its battery died.
I replaced the battery myself but now the laptop's keys on the keyboard will not work.
I can use an external one or the on screen but not the keyboard itself.  I am assuming
I broke something when I removed the old Dell laptop battery.  There was a
ribbon stuck to the original battery (which was swollen ) and I had to pull pretty hard to remove
it. By the way, the keyboard worked fine before I replaced it.

I tried all the software based fixes (including resetting BIOS and W10 O/S) but nothing works.  Im wondering if anyone has experienced this and what they did to fix it.  Do I need to get a replacement keyboard/palm rest or I can try to take everything about and see if there is cable that is no longer seated correctly.

Thank You for any advice,
Roger

Thank you everyone for your help and ideas.  I had disconnected the keyboard cable when I pulled the battery out.  I reconnected it and Im back in business.  Below is a picture-the long/bigger cable needed to be reseated in the KB slot.

Usually the Dell Laptops malfunction a bit on battery replacement. I recently goy battery replaced and thereafter facing screen issues with the laptop. Although keyboard malfunction was never among them, still, my recommendation would be, try and take everything out again and check if there is an incorrect cable seating.

Also, I hope the new battery is the exact replica of the previous one. Since I had mine replaced too but the newly ordered one had one different pin setting and I had to reorder it. So additional advice to check on that too.

If you don't find anything visually appearing is faulty, please go to a nearby authorized service center and get it checked once before any further replacements.

Please run Keyboard troubleshooter on the system by typing Troubleshoot onto [Cortana] search box. The troubleshooter find and fix problems with your computer's keyboard settings.

If Troubleshooter doesn't fix keyboard:

Uninstall / reinstall keyboard driver in device manager.

1. Right click keyboard driver and select Uninstall

2. Select Action on the Device Manager menu bar

3. On the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes to reinstall driver

If that doesn't work:

1. Right click keyboard driver

2. Select Properties

3. Select Roll back Driver under the Driver tab

Lastly, if keyboard still doesn't work normally:

Roll system back to the most recent successful configuration of the registry, restart the computer in Safe Mode and select the Last Known Good Configuration option. Hopefully this will finally fix the computer's keyboard.

Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10 - Windows Help

I am having the same problem.  The keyboard is not working after I replaced the battery.  There was a ribbon stuck to the bottom of the battery when I tried to remove the old battery.  I had to pull a bit to get it off.  I can see anywhere that there is a cable dislodged.  I don't understand the picture in the solution to this problem which is shown below.  Can someone help me identify if I dislodged the keyboard ribbon?

Hi There-if I recall correctly the large cable (F14 in picture) had to go back into a slot that it was pulled out from when I replaced the battery.

That is correct. There is a wide ribbon cable that connects keyboard to mainboard. To disconnect it, you must flip up a hinged flap on the connector, then carefully slide the cable out of the connector. To reconnect it, carefully slide the cable into the connector, making sure it's fully inserted. Then flip the hinged flap down to lock the cable in place.

Whenever touching components or working inside a computer, wear a grounded wrist strap, also called anti-static wrist strap, ESD wrist strap, or ground bracelet. I know many people do such work without this, but it's a cheap and sensible precaution.

I had the same problem as described, KB cable stuck to swollen battery, etc. In my effort to unstick the cable it had pulled loose of the connector (white with black bar marked "KB" on the main board) and slipped under the board. It appeared to originate from under the board after I got the old battery out, so I didn't notice the problem. Note that the KB cable is just a ribbon without a connector, so to reinsert it lift the black bar, make sure the ribbon is inserted straight and fully (mine wanted to seat at an angle) then press the black bar down to secure the ribbon. Hope these details help the next guy.
