Inspiron 15 3583 LCD Panel Upgrade
I received a new Inspiron 15 3583 for Christmas. So far its a nice laptop, but just like another brand that I had for the last 4 years, its fitted with one of those awful display panels with little color saturation, a washed out image from the back-lighting, and a horrible blue tint.
Just like my other laptop, I tried to correct the color with the Intel Graphics Control Panel, only this one lacks the gamma sliders for each color, which is essential for removing the blue cast. I eventually ended up using a program called QuickGamma which allows you to adjust the gamma for each color and create a color profile for Windows. While I did get the display looking noticeably better, I can't seem to obtain a natural color temperature. (Leans more towards the warm side). If I try to remove the warmness, then I end up with the blueish tint again.
Among other things, the picture that the panel produces looks hazy from the back-lighting (other laptop is like that too, but to a lesser degree) and appears to produce a softer image. At this point, I would rather replace the display panel than to put up with an unsatisfactory image and tumbling around with color settings. Is it possible to upgrade the display panel to one that has better color and contrast ratio?

OK, so I did manage to get the color of the LCD panel closer to what it should be by comparing it with my desktop monitor. Here's what I did.
In the Intel Graphics Control Panel under Display > Color Settings, I turned down the brightness for each color...
Red: 0
Green: 0
Blue: -5
Saturation: 25
Then using QuickGamma, (because Intel stupidly removed the gamma sliders), I adjusted the levels for each color...
Red: 2.20
Green: 2.20
Blue: 1.40
This is about the best that I can get the LCD panel to look. If I try to make it look better, I end up throwing off the other colors. While these settings may satisfy most people, others maybe critical about certain colors being off. While reds look good for the most part, greens tend to be a bit over-saturated and blues tend to be under-saturated or washed out. I don't know if lowering the blue gamma would yield in an improvement because QuickGamma won't let me go lower than 1.40. Going higher only increases the blueness. Other annoyances include the color profile (gamma) being loaded after logging in, and Windows enhancing the image in some programs due to a loaded color profile. None of which wouldn't have been an issue if only Intel didn't remove the gamma sliders!
Even though the panel looks much better, its still not 100% perfect, though its what should have been expected out of the box instead of a washed out blue tinted image. Heck, I have laptops with TFT displays from the 90's that produce a better picture, and that was during a time when users had little to no control over color settings. I've already been contacted by a Dell rep stating that I can upgrade my display panel, though I believe what they will sell to me is the screen assembly, which will probably cost close to or more than what the computer is worth. I was also given no technical specifications on the optional screens, other than full HD and touchscreen, so I could likely end up with pretty much the same thing. Replacing the panel itself would be the best route for me, seeing that I've replaced panels in the past. I don't really need anything high end, just something with a less matted finish and a higher contrast.
