Inspiron 15 7567 headset not working

Today I bought a headset to use for gaming that has a single 3.5mm  plug with a mic built in. This laptop shows a headset icon by the jack so I'm assuming it supports this type of input, but when I plug it in only the audio output works and the input only comes from the built in mic on the laptop. I've checked the sound control panel and no other options show up for microphone.  Sometimes a popup window comes up when I plug them in that gives me the option to designate the device as a headset, but even when I do that it doesn't work and I haven't been able to get that option to pop up anymore.

Hello phooten.

Thanks for posting.  Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.

When you insert the headphone plug into the jack socket, you should see a popup asking you to specify the function of the jack. On some very recent Dell models, the headphone jack will not work correctly without the popup. If you don't see the popup you might have to find the setting to allow that. It should be in Dell Audio or WavesMaxx.

Here is some additional information from the support page you may find helpful:

On the popup you got, it shows Headphones\headset.   Make sure and pick the headset option and not the Headphones.

You can turn the popup back on if you go to the Advanced tab on the MaxxAudio Pro User Interface which you should be able to open from the hidden icons on the Task Bar or from the Apps listing on the Start Menu.

HI,

I have a similar problem. When I bought my laptop, it was able to recognize the headphones when plugged in. But after some driver updates, my laptop no longer recognizes when i plug in my headphones unless i reboot the laptop with the headphones plugged in. I checked the Wave MaxxAudio to see if the pop-up is enabled (it is). I have unchecked the box and rebooted and then checked the box and rebooted the laptop. But there still is no pop-up. I have uninstalled the Realtek driver and installed it again but it doesn't seem to fix the issue. I tried to uninstall Wave MaxxAudio but i can't find the program in the uninstall or change a program feature in Control Panel.

I have the same problem. When I connect my speaker, I hear a bit of sound from the speaker, a kind of noise but the sound continues to come from the speakers of the Laptop.

I found the solution for me on a other blog. Hope it will work for you to.

RE: Dell Inspiron 15: Headphones not working, sound comes through speakers when plugged in

First, make sure the headphone cable is fully inserted...

Then you show get a popup to allow you to select the device if you are using a Combined Audio Port.

If you aren't getting the popup, check the task manager to see if on the Startup Tab a Waves MaxxAudio entry is set to enabled.

If you look at the processes tab you should have two entries for Waves, one blue square and one green circle.

Thank you for your message. Do you get any pop-up message when you connect the headphones to the notebook?

Do you get audio from the headphone jack?

Open device manager- expand sound & video – right click on the audio driver & click on uninstall (do not check the box that says delete driver) & restart the computer. This will refresh the driver.

Once the system starts back up connect the headphone & check if the issue persists.

For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

I get the pop-up and I select headset but the laptop still uses the built in microphone and doesn't detect the headset microphone.  Sadly I didn't realize this problem until my laptop was out of warranty so I cannot return it to be fixed.  This model seems to have a lot of audio issues, from microphones not being detected to not having Realtek HD Audio or the manager supported on the device.  If anyone finds a solution please let me know, thank you.

Not sure if you still need help with this but I ran into this problem as well, and the way I fixed it was just a different Realtek audio driver, the one from the dell website about your model.  To find this website, just go to dell.com and then go to the support tab and type in your pc.
