Inspiron 15 7573, I'm having problems with upgrading the memory up to 32GB!

No you don't have to purchase dell branded ram sticks the issue you experience is being caused by something else with that being said it is always a good idea to use 2 sticks of the same brand do not mix them as this can cause unwanted results.Also you should check if the sticks are compatible with your system a very wel known site todo this is www.crucial.com and the sticks should be DDR4 memory . Now to find the cause of the issue

You say the charging led is flashing when you try to turn on the system there is your issue download this manual and look at page 103 for what the led flashing pattern means.

Turn of your computer

remove the base cover

press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain the flea power.

Flea power is the residual static electricity that remains on the computer even after it
has been powered off and the battery has been removed

Found something that might help you according to this intel page your processor can support 32GB but not at 2400 mhz clockspeed as there is a lower speed mentiioned in the memory specifications.

Thanks for replying confuseduser43.  Yeah I already tried draining the Flea power and always made sure I had matching kits of memory. It is sort of confusing according to the Intel i5-8250U webpage that it shows it is compatible at 2133MHz but using DDR3LP memory. However there are DDR4 versions of 32GB 2133MHz memory kits that I think it might be worth a try to see what happens. Hopefully I can find a seller who can take an honest return back if it doesn't work. If I get a chance to try it out, I'll definitely post back my results here. Thank you for your advice!

Before you purchase a memory kit read the store return policy so you know in case it doesn't work you can return it and get your money back.

Wear an ESD wrist wrap while working inside your laptop .I'm not sure if this will work but you could try a "diagnostic boot" while the laptop is powered off hold down fn key and press the power button it should go straight to dell diagnostics however keep in mind that the memory test takes a long time.

Also you mentioned you sometimes get a BSOD do you remember the error code ?.

Unfortunately the bluescreens were just a few and I think one of them did state a memory dump. The last thing that was consistent is when I have just one 16GB Crucial memory stick installed and that after every bootup, eventually my laptop will just simply freeze as soon as I enter the desktop or a few minutes later and i have to force a shut down and restart. But with putting back my single 8GB stick it runs perfectly fine.

Strange this is some more work but since the issue is clearly with the memory sticks i would try installing them and after you turn the system on press f2 (repeatly) to enter the bios and check if the ram is detected there.You have to use SODIMM memory modules non ecc your cpu doesn't support ecc.

One more thing you can try to exclude an issue with your screen since you mentioned it doesn't turn on while the laptop is powered off hold down the d key and press the power button this will run the bist (build in screen test).
