Inspiron 16 Plus 7620 POWER SUPPLY
Inspiron 16 Plus 7620
Hello,
I recently purchased an "Inspiron 16 Plus 7620". Specs are i7-12700H, 40gb 4800MHz ram, 16" 3k display, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 1tb pcie nvme ssd, 6-cell 86WHr battery.
The system came with the 130W USB-C charger. This works fine but prevents use of the Thunderbolt port since that's where it connects. I would like to purchase a power adapter which uses the 4.5mm barrel socket (left side of laptop, near display).
Going to the support page and using my Service Tag, the Accessories page identifies an alternate supply as compatible, the "180W, 7.4MM barrel connector" (Dell part 450-AGCU)." This appears to be an error, because that supply has a 7.4mm barrel connector and won't fit the Inspiron 16 Plus (7620)'s 4.5mm power port.
Searching Dell accessories without my service tag, I did find a "4.5mm barrel 130W AC adapter" (Dell part 332-1829). The stated specs seem correct for the Inspiron 16 (7620): 130W, 4.5mm barrel, 19.5vdc, 6.7A output all matches what the Inspiron 16 Plus (7620) specifications say it needs. But Dell lists the 332-1829 as only compatible with certain Inspiron 13, XPS5 and Precision models, and not the 7620.
Does anyone know what 4.5mm barrel AC adapter is the correct one for Inspiron 16 Plus (7620)?

Web page still shows the wrong adapter (130w with 7.4mm barrel connector, which will NOT fit the 16+ (7620) as compatible. As well, the web page for the 332-1829 charger does NOT list the 16+ (7620) as being compatible.
I took a chance and ordered the 332-1829 (4.5mm plug, 130w). It arrived today and I can now confirm it is compatible with the 16+ (7620) laptop. It powers and charges the 16+ correctly.
The 4.5mm socket location is much more convenient (left side near display hinge) than the USB-C socket, and the USB-C socket is now free to use with an external drive while the laptop is powered/charging from the 4.5mm 130w adapter.

Scott,
I found one on Amazon that shows it works for the 7620. Appreciate your post because I just bought one from Costco on sale. All specs on Amazon seem to match what you have posted. Here's how Amazon has it listed: "130W (Watt) AC Charger Fit for Dell Inspiron 15 16 7510 7610 Plus 7620 7706..."
$38.99

Thanks, Ed.
I did see some 3rd-party versions like that one, and the fact that they claim compatibility with both 15 and 16+ makes me think the Dell 332-1829 is compatible with the 16+ (7620), even though Dell's web site doesn't say so.
Those 3rd-party chargers are probably just fine, but I would prefer a Dell-branded one if I can verify which one fits. I'm sure the one Dell recommends for 16+(7620) will NOT work, because the 7.4mm plug is too large -- that has to be a mistake on their website. Now I'm 98% sure the 332-1829 is the correct one, so maybe I'll just cross my fingers and order one of those.

I had the exact same problem and decided to take the direct route. I called Dell customer support and because I bought the laptop less then three weeks ago from Costco, they are shipping me a power cord (that does not use the USB-3 adapter). Because the computer still falls under the product warranty they are shipping a Dell power cord at no cost.
I just got off the phone with them and I should be getting the power cord in 1-2 days.
I will update this post once I get it!
