Inspiron 5567 High CPU usage, fan blowing
A couple of weeks ago the fan in my Inspiron 5567 (Windows 10) started running at full speed most of the time. I went into task manager and saw it was using very high % of CPU with no apps open. Antimalware Service Executable was using up to 30% CPU on its own.
I’ve tried using Avast and BitDefender instead of Windows Security. I’ve reset the PC (which uninstalled all programmes apart from Office 2016) but none of that helped. I’ve run Malwarebytes and AdWCleaner but they didn’t find anything. I’ve installed all windows and Dell updates. I then tried doing a repair install using the Media Creation tool but that hasn’t helped either.
I’ve also posted about this on the Microsoft forum here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/antimalware-service-executable-very-high-cpu/7e49f63f-467a-424e-9866-fcc37cf642ea
I’ve spent hours in this getting nowhere. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks

Please DM us the Service Tag or the Express Service code (you can find it on the back of your laptop) so that we have one of our Tech Teams look into this issue.

thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, I'm afraid most of those solutions are beyond my comfort zone of expertise. The instruction: "In the tab for Services tick the box to Hide all MS Services, disable everything except anti-virus, any sync, stickies, printer with scan," is not something I am comfortable experimenting with, not knowing what "any sync, stickies" etc. might refer to. But thank you again

For me the solution was 4) in this list of suggestions: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/windows-10-performance-and-install-integrity/75529fd4-fac7-4653-893a-dd8cd4b4db00
After I disabled all non-ME services apart from Dell Support Assist PC started working fine.
For the full list of other possible solutions, see this thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/antimalware-service-executable-very-high-cpu/7e49f63f-467a-424e-9866-fcc37cf642ea?auth=1
Hope this helps.

I have same problem with same model. I run Bitdefender as well, but the task manager shows significant processor use just labeled as "system" along with literally dozens of gear symbol designations that are all "Service Host: ..." with various descriptors afterwards. I have run all the optimization tools in Support Assist, but it still does this. If i am on battery, it runs down in just over an hour. it began doing this not long after the last updates.

To: RobDell1234 - I decided to look at the first step of #4. I did not recognize all the programs, but some i recognized as extraneous items that may have been installed to run a particular program or process some document. So disabled those. Probably only about eight or ten on the list, but i must have hit a good one, because after rebooting, the computer seems to be working fine, and there is No Fan running.
so thanks again.

Things you might want to try.
> Run the task manager and check the CPU load - if no program is running it should be less than 5%. If the
the CPU load is much higher let the system run for at least 2 hours to make sure that Windows can download and install all necessary updates ! (this update procedure can keep the CPU quite busy - you can manually initiate the windows updates: open charms/click search/choose settings and type "windows update")
> Try running the system in BIOS mode (usually F2 at powerup) with the mains power supply connected to the laptop and observe the fans behaviour. Then test the system again this time only powered by the battery.
> Under "Power Options" activate temporarily "Power saver" (or whatever is available) to see if it makes any difference

Same here, I have a Dell 3542 laptop (i5 4th gen, 8GB ram, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD).
This is happening since I have upgraded to windows 10.
In Ubuntu 18 also I have noticed very high CPU usage (high fan speed). I believe it's a BIOS issue.

Things you might want to have a look at.

The CPU demand is significantly higher. Allow for at least 2 hours of system time to ensure that Windows can download and install all necessary updates! (This update procedure can use a lot of CPU time; you can manually start windows updates by opening charms/clicking search/choosing settings and typing "windows update" into the search box.)

Then test the system again, this time using only the battery as a source of power.
> Select "Power Options" from the drop-down menu.
