Inspiron 7746, Freezes when unplugged

I need some help here. I have an Inspiron that is a few years old, but very well maintained etc. The purchased 1 year warranty expired on March 12, 2016. It works fine 100% of the time when plugged in. But when it's unplugged, it will freeze (or hang), even if I plug it in. If I hard reset, with it plugged in, it works again fine. Need help here, as this is pretty unacceptable for a laptop whos whole purpose is portability.

It seems that your laptop is overheating and because of which it over throttles.. Does the battery while working dissipates more heat than usual. Get the OEM battery checked and replaced and see if you have set the threshold of the CPU temperature well above the temperature when throttling.

Is the battery original to the system, or has it been replaced?  And if it was replaced, was an OEM battery used, or a third-party battery?

If the battery is original, it's five years old - and well beyond its expected lifespan.
