Inspiron G5 15-5590, overheating problem

Have the same configuration as yours, had the same problem, laptop was overheating 100C under load , best way to go is throttlestop, undervolt -150mV, set turbo ratio limits to 3700MHz, (can go even lower like 3300MHz, will get better thermals, around 62-68C , but will lose from processor performance around 23%, you can always set it back if you need more juice)...using a regular cooling pad won't make much of a difference but if you can get your hands on vacuum cooling pad ...

So after all this changes and vacuum cooling pad you shuld be around 55-60C under load.

My laptop is same overheating problem from 2 years. After using few minutes my laptop get heat quickly! can any one tell me how can I solve this problem?

I have the white special edition - i5 9300h with the GTX 1660ti and i can tell you its suffering the same extact problem. 

First, i had the Dell gaming 3579 with the i5 8300h and gtx 1050 and the CPU frequency never goes to 3.8 - 4.0Ghz on Balance and at max power. The frequency steps is usually lower until its necesary - for example, gaming. I don't like to have the CPU at max, so i use the advance power option and set to 80-85%. Frequency goes lower when its not neccesary, but goes to that max frequency and the laptop doesn't get hot. I didn't need to disable speedstep, turbo, speedshift in bios.

Now... With the G5 5590... Cpu is always at max before updating and after updating all the drivers, etc. The frequencies stays at 3.98gzh at all times.. and the interval of the fan goes on and off when its not necessary (even in a cooler enviroment). When gaming, the fans kicks in way hard. 

So first, i try to use the advanced power option to switch max proccesing frequency to 80%... It does nothing... 50%... Nothing. When i switch between battery saver and Max.. and use the advanced power options again and set it to 80%. The max cpu frequency goes waayyyyy low. Even at 98%...where the frequency should be around 3.5ghz, stays at a low 2.5ghz. Even in 99% max processing power option. Anything i do to change the frequency... The cpu stay at max of the set frequency. (Never goes down at all). So as a last resort, i had to use throttle stop too and set max a @ 2.6ghz or 3.5ghz to play a game without the fans kicking in high. It is a weird situation and even with a cooling pad... Probably need a high turbine cooler or mod the vents and make more vents.

It has to be the bios and something wrong with the optimization with advance options for setting min/max frequency and also the ***frequency steps always being at max every time***

With the new bios that just came out as of March 5th, the under-clocking of the CPU frequency and voltage programs disables the turbo ratio limits in throttlestop to the point where i cannot go to a lower frequency manually anymore. Dell just doesn't know what they are doing as they also mess up the advance power settings to set the maximum processing state to your liking as stated on my other post.

Fortunately, about 2 - 3 years ago... someone created a script file that enables you to see all the hidden power settings in advanced power settings, so now you can actually set "Balanced, Dell, or even High Performance" as it should be as it did for many gamer laptops in the past. Once you run it and reboot, now check advanced power setting again, go to you usual "power processing management" and go to "maximum power frequency" and set you MHz frequency. I have my dell power setting in 2600MHz for certain games, and in Balanced, i have the settings in 3200MHz for other games, now i can switch whenever i play games of just use the PC in general without the fans kicking @ 1.21 GIGAWATS. By additionally configuring and stopping some unnecessary programs to autostart, the CPU utilization is now at 3% - 5% at idle compared to 16% - 20% - where the fans kick in a set intervals for no reason.

I just hope dell just sits in a corner for a while and think what they did wrong to this machine, they make and waste money against people who think that they need to return their machine and have it serviced for nothing.

There is a plastic/rubber pad surrounding the CPU already (at least in my model) and covering the resistors. It is like Dell predicted someone could apply liquid metal and took the steps to prevent any damage to the motherboard.

I've got the same specs as you and we should be able to get at least 100 FPS in AAA games, but I can't get a consistent 80 FPS (which I capped it at to try keep it consistent). My CPU usage doesn't go above ~30%.

I get 100c as well, but I've been using Dell Thermal Manager and setting it to "Cool" and it works by limiting heat to 80c, but the FPS is still low and inconsistent (on low settings), and every time I launch a game I have to open the thermal manager again. 

I would prefer not undervolting, because I am inexperienced with it and I don't want to damage my hardware.

So its been a week since we last communicated. I was having troubles using Intel XTU to under-volt, because it seems they removed the option, but I found another forum talking about changing the Maximum Processor state in Battery settings (I set both battery and plugged in to 90%). I also changed my power mode to better performance, instead of best, and my CPU hasn't gone over 70c while playing since. This obviously prevents the CPU from going into Turbo Boost, but it seems it may be indirectly undervolting as well, because my speed doesn't go over ~2.4GHz and voltage sticks around 0.9 according to AWCC, but the CPU performance is WAY better due to ZERO throttling. I don't need to change my thermal manager profile to cool anymore either.

I've been able to increase my FPS limit on R6S to a stable 120 FPS (up form 80) AND I changed texture settings back to medium from low.

I really suggest giving this a try or suggesting it to others.

Here the solution was disable Intel Turbo Boost on Bios. Maybe repasting could help, but reduce 100 to 80-90 is not enough to keep the system durability. 

Without TurboBoost the temperature is around 60 - 75C with peaks of 80-85. FPS loss minimal (-5 ~ -10), running youtube or twitch at same time. 

same problem , sent to service in warranty ,  motherboard changed (as per their statement) then no change problem still exist

At one point my temperatures were going to 95-98, with fans at 100 % or close to it, with boost disabled 60-70 with no performance change that I can see. I remember doing this in the past and now with recent windows updates I think something messed up bios and got it enabled again. I actually repasted it and that haven't changed behavior too much, there are also some other known problems like changing power setting in My Dell app > Power > Thermal. Hope it helps, gl guys.
