Iris XE iGPU not being utilized over USB-C Alt-mode
Inspiron 16 Plus 7620
Dear support,
my newly purchased Inspiron 16 Plus 7620 with an RTX3060 is not using the iGPU (Intel Iris XE) when connected to an external display via USB-C with DP alt-mode enabled. Is this an expected behavior?
The nvidia dGPU is utilized all the time even for non-gaming and non-graphics-intensive load, thus producing more heat and higher fan activity/fan RPM.
When using only the internal display without and external display connected, the system is selectively assigning graphics related load to the iGPU and the dGPU based on application specific settings (i.e. games set to High Performance = NVIDIA RTX3060 and other apps set to Power saving = integrated GPU).
The GPU(0) and GPU(1) usage can be seen in the Windows 11 Task Manager.
Thanks,
Martin
